Oh for Gods sake (although even HE isn't aware of it), please get off the "The home page isn't pretty enough" thing, please. The home page is fine, getting people to it is the problem.

It doesn't look that bad.

We're talking about this...
http://www.freeallegiance.org/
...right?

Well, I guess the non-public forums are still a problem.
The problem with this is we'd be starting over from scratch. The top factor in Google's algorithm is well known to be external links pointing to a domain. There are a fair amount of links pointing to freeallegiance.org and a new domain would get no credit for these. Also domain age is a factor. It would take a lot of effort to start with a new domain and it would be far easier to use freeallegiance.org. Worth considering, but I think it is far too late to have much success with a new domain.

raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ May 18 2012, 09:33 AM) Yea, with all of the games and all of the websites that want first place on Google, where could we hope to start? Everyone with $$ is doing it, so my opinion is that our only hope is gaming/forum/download sites. AEM, correct me please because we are trying to take the load off of TE and BV so they can have lives like the rest of us.
As stated above, we have an established website with a fair amount of external links pointing to us. We aren't "starting", just optimizing. $$ only helps for buying advertising. We can rank high on Google with just a little effort put into our website and getting more links out there. No, we are not likely to rank well for very competitive, more general searches like "free games", but we certainly should be ranking well with more specific searches. Not only do we rank poorly, but our website looks terrible in search results. Our home page title is "FreeAllegiance -Home Page". Just changing the title to something like "Free Game - Online Space FPS / RTS Microsoft Allegiance" would make a big difference. We also need the meta description tag added to the html as Google is not displaying a good description.

We could easily have a CMS set up as our home page and other content pages that a responsible team could easily maintain. I would recommend Wordpress. After the CMS is set up and preferably at least one active contributor has ftp access, TE/BV would hardly need to be involved.

A "pretty" website, although looks could still be improved, is the least of our problems with SEO again being the biggest. Truly I think we would be better off having a main section of our website including the homepage and all non-wiki content such as screenshots, downloads, etc. freeallegiance.org/forums/ would would only be the forums and blog. IPB is not good as a content management system and we would be better off using something else. It also does not help that our video playlist no longer loads. I think YouTube changed something on their end and as a result we need to update the embed code. I sent TigerEye new code to swap in 2-3 days ago, but have not gotten a reply.

from what i understand TE would be more than willing to implement the changes you are suggesting, given enough time to respond to your request. Perhaps a better way to reach him would be via Admin Requests

Hey Spinoza,

With a 3.63 kills per game and a .40 kills per eject, I can see you haven't the ability to detect a broken stick OR mouse.

When you are skilled enough to detect the difference between a working controller and a non working controller, I'll listen, until then, P.ss Off!

Your reddit comments about joysticks being inferior to mice (or unworkable in Allegiance).

I wouldn't know since I've never used a joystick, but plenty of people since this game's inception have been excellent whores while using a joystick. And this game has been out for 12 years now so if you don't have a functional joystick that was released during that time frame, well, I guess that's just bad luck on your part.
