I don't give a @#(! if the other squad resigns, as long as they don't pussy out and resign too early when the game is still 60/40 or even 70/30- then they have just wasted our time and that's - not - cool.
But resigning used to be a matter of pride for the squad, we didn't resign even when dominated because it was accepted you'd fight tooth and nail to the bitter end. If you didn't you looked even worse.
So, really, resigning is a question of self-image. If you don't care... and not that there is anything wrong with that... go ahead as far as I'm concerned.

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.

Slippery slope - arguments aside, I really don't see the problem with resigns. Never have, never will.
If a game is lost in your estimation, and it looks like you're going to turn into a glorified digital clay pigeon for the opposing team to shoot at, you resign. You resign if you know you're beaten. Simple as that.
Spidey may claim that there's always a way out of a nigh impossible situation, but that is assuming that the entire team somehow magically rids itself of the suckage that got them into trouble in the first place. Comms don't magically turn into Aarmstrong, and Bunnywabbits don't magically turn into Weedmans.
If you are in a situation where only first rate pilots could save your team's ass, and you lack these pilots, then you resign rather than stay in base to comply in letter only to some bullcrap rule. And then the opposing team gets to jeer at you and gloat. But it does that anyway, so no loss there.
If you do have these pilots, and you are such a comm, you have no reason to feel the situation is dire and you will play because winning would give you occasion to stroke your e-peen over for years to come.
However, as things are, you get ridiculed and taunted if you lose, whether you lose 'honorably' or not. I think Spidey's taunts in this thread are example enough of that. So feel free to resign and face no more gloating than you would have you had just sat in base or fought to the bitter end. Particularly not from me, and franky: I don't see how even Spidey could step up his jibes without it becoming just not funny anymore.

now for the slippery slopes (Cookie even called it so and didn't realize that that means the argument is flawed: bad Cookie!):
"people will resign when they know they're beaten and it won't be fun anymore" -> "People will resign SG's after the first con loss" -> "they'll resign after the first minute" -> "Allegiance will die" -> "the world will end": There are many reasons to play besides winning. Learning, for instance, or because it's fun to play with your squadmates, and against friends in the opposing squad. Because it's fun to play higher level gameplay. all sorts of reasons. To say that people would resign at minute #1 if they were allowed to against a stronger team, is to say people would commit mass suicide if their ethics system allowed it, because every life must end in death.
In short: To pretend that the only thing keeping a squadgame going after the loss of the first con is the unwritten rule against resigns, is stupid.
As you bloody well know.

current version r158 new beta as of jan 23 2012My reasons for not resigning:
1) I have a better feeling when I destroy the last base of the opposing squad. That is why I will feel that it is unsportish if another squad resigned against me.
2) RT learned to keep morale high while playing, even when the game is practically lost. After the game is over, there is not much you can do for morale, especially when resigning.
It's your choice whether to resign squad games or not, I just recommend not doing it.

Ints kill nans, probes kill bombers.

If its stupid to assume people will resign after their first con bunny then why has it happened...
Instead of talking about losers resigning, we should be talking about winners finishing imo.
My point was/is no one will learn to pull themselves out of impossible situations if they never try. And they will not try if it is socially acceptable to resign after setbacks which WILL happen.
Frankly I wouldn't want to play any squad that did this but with our decreased numbers that's not an option.
P.s. if all the people reading and commenting in this thread would log insometime it could help...
Also bunny it sounds like you have no clue what you are talking about as relates to squad management, or commanding. Your right people dont magically get good but have you never seen a team that has been sucking suddenly perform well? Frankly this is fairly standard sysx squad game performance as I'm sure you remember from the last 2 games we played in the squad tournament
First rate pilots are not as important as first rate teams bunny. You could be a thousand tomes more valuable to the team than a superior yet clueless pilot like cindy. Surely you must have seen a game where i achieved victory with a quarter of the kills of the other team with belters exp

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
I should add most of you think you are beaten when you are not, its sad seeing people give up in a game my grandma could lead to victory.
RT of course has a different problem, they never know when they are beaten which makes them all the more dangerous.
XT always thinks they are beaten when they are not and will send me millions of pms asking why I haven't ended it 6 minutes in

I say this as someone who hasn't played in an SG in over a year, so obviously copious amounts of salt are recommended before consuming, but...
Accepting resigns in SGs discourages what we (used to) consider "squad level" play. If SysX knows that NI will resign after defeat is "inevitable", and the last 4 games they played that meant in the first 30 mins or whatever, what incentive is there for the SysX folks to show up to play?
If you're just going to roll over, please don't waste the other squad's time by scheduling a game.
Would you watch a boxing match where as soon as the underdog gets knocked down his corner throws in the towel?
Would you want to see a race where as soon as someone gets lapped by the leader they just drop out of the race?
Would you want to see a football game where the losing team quits at halftime because they are down 40 points?
If you're planning to quit then please just $#@!ing quit before you start.
