Thanks for the replies, I was mainly interested in T1 actually and I got my answer.
Other questions had their own purpose too but not an obvious one, and I apologize to everyone for this trick.
I did get valuable hints at who do what here and who think can do what. That's all I wanted.
I'll just clarify to 3 points so you don't get over alarmed here:
- I never officially claimed to be working on Alleg 2 or detailed anything else about this. I do work on something. And it may or may not be related to Allegiance one day but this will depend a lot on someone else studies of this community. Sorry to not be as 'transparent' as I'd like to. May be the words 'marketing' and 'potential' can hint you there.
- by 'public' when talking about ZLs forums, I meant read-only to the public. Of course you wouldn't everyone to post in your debate but I don't see an open community like a private company. I hoped you don't too but I'm not sure now.
- by 'splitting' the community I didn't mean in 2 egally sized parts. Max 20 'special' people on 1 side and the rest in another. I'm more interested in that 2nd part and its future potential. You'll do the conclusion yourself.
So thanks again and now I'll take my leave.
Questions to whoever is in charge
Seems like if certain people were really interested in contributing to the game, they would do so. \\
If there is some kind of fantastatic new mod, version, update, etc to Allegiance out there - then why isn't Kage as open about - he is complaining about transparency in the community but his own actions show a high level of secrecy.
Kage seem to feel a sense of entitlement as a result of his contributions to the game. This is a sure sign that IF he does have something real up his sleeve, he will end up running it with this same sense of entitlement i.e. it's mine, I own it...
I really feel that if Kage's concerns were as he presents them, he could work this out with TE in some PMs. Grandstanding on the open forums is an obvious tactic to get a guarded response from TE.
I suggest TE review all the current agreements between the community and Microsoft. Kage may be trying to bait you into doing something contrary to that agreement. I fear he is a Sith lord.

There is a small group who have been working on Alleg2. Otherwise we would not have it waved at us via PM's or public posts over the last few months. I know nothing about it and don't really care.
As I told one of the people, go for it! I presonally have no interest in a variation of Allegiance. I might check it out, so would a few others, but this is the game and community I have stuck with for over a decade. I would bet that applies to a number of other people too. Some might go, it might even help attract new people here and attract some new there.
Anyone remember when a certain person was going to move his faction and create *his* own community? That person doesn't even play anymore.
I think TE has answered every question in this topic as the rest of the ZL's would.
...scurries off to private pron forum.

Always in the Shadows...
Can I just answer this point

I doubt this woul;e make sense either to be honest kage. What would happen is this.
Someone reads something in the "Read Only" forum that they take exception to.They post up a thread in general talking/complaining about why they take exception to it.A several hundred post drama thread starts in general. The ZL's are dragged into the general forum argument topic. Nothing gets done on the original topic.
The drama will still happen. there is good reasons for a number of forums to be private, in my own zone it's a good idea to have a private training forum so people are not afraid to ask any stupid question they feel like without anyone mocking them, and it also mostly stops retarded answers to any questions being posted.
I'm far too hungover to look at the rest of this thread in detail.
Maybe tomorrow.

I for one am shocked to hear this. I truly believed that your NDA contained valid legal reasons for polling the community on removing hiders so we could collect millions in grant money to completely revamp the game.KGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 29 2010, 07:30 AM) Other questions had their own purpose too but not an obvious one, and I apologize to everyone for this trick.
What a letdown
If my sarcasm is unclear to anyone, its a scummy thing to do for kage post all this nonsense and his questions while referencing legal implications for one question only to be answered.
Hopefully this provides a valuable lesson to all you newer people on how he operates. Dishonestly.

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
Nope, and believe me when I say I have no expectations of maintaining Allegiance's servers TOMORROW let alone if a group of developers release an Allegiance 2. Hell, this possibility grows stronger every time one of these "us vs TE" topics get started. The ZLs can tell me to take a hike any time they want, and it's more likely they will if the community believes I'm hurting more than I'm helping.Orion wrote:QUOTE (Orion @ Aug 29 2010, 01:11 AM) If this Allegiance 2 thing is real, and not some half-baked hoax, you can't expect to retain this absolute control you have over the Allegiance community, can you TE?
My Allegiance is to *THIS* game, and if a group of devs come up with Alleg2 then I'm not really certain what would happen. The game would likely fall under Microsoft's ownership as long as something from Allegiance was retained: art, sound, faction names, ship names, etc. As for administration/community organization, those devs would have to make a decision at some point about how to "interface" with this community. Allegiance 2 would likely be a community on its own, much like Starcraft 2, Quake 2, and other games had their own communities grow up around them while other people stayed true to the original. Depending on how well the game was put together, three things could happen: Separate communities, migration from this one to theirs, or absorption of Alleg2 into this one. Nobody will know which will happen unless these devs communicate with us and unless this community sees the game.
One thing is for certain: my dedication is to THIS game and THIS community, and so far it seems we won't have to worry about many of these decisions for a while.
If anyone working on Alleg2 wants my help, commentary, or anything else, let me know.

The Allegiance community currently hates their sysadmin because he is doing: [Too Much] [____________|] [Too Little]
Current reason: Removing the PayPal contribute page. Send Bitcoin instead: 1EccFi98tR5S9BYLuB61sFfxKqqgSKK8Yz. This scale updates regularly.
Hooray for threshold secret sharing.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 29 2010, 02:21 AM) You say you want the keys yourself in case something goes wrong. I did answer this and told you that you would not get the keys because of your prior threats at splitting this community. "If you're asking for them, you probably shouldn't have them."
I told you I'd meet you half way and share the keys with others instead to address your concerns of me going missing. (If you must know, I'm about to issue key-parts to the ZLs using Shamir's Secret Sharing algorithm. I'll split the necessary keys into separate parts and distribute each part to each ZL. The majority of the ZLs (not all) can recombine the keys by working together in the event of an emergency. This technical point can be discussed in another topic)

For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
Makes sense. My post was probably moot anyway since it hinged around a very large "if". However, I don't really think you could ever expect the ZLs to ask you to step down since you hold all the knowledge/experience, binaries, and data(bases) to Allegiance. Not that I think you should be removed, or should step down (I just don't think you should be the soul proprietor and owner of the servers). If you could get that kind of job security in a real job that paid you you would be pretty much set for life.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 29 2010, 10:12 AM) My Allegiance is to *THIS* game, and if a group of devs come up with Alleg2 then I'm not really certain what would happen.

There are alot of us out there that dont post because were happy how things are. I think everything is just fine and with the incorporation of Zone Leads it has filled the part that I wanted the most which was development.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 29 2010, 11:12 AM) Nope, and believe me when I say I have no expectations of maintaining Allegiance's servers TOMORROW let alone if a group of developers release an Allegiance 2. I know its frustrating to hear thread after thread of it, but it most cases its from the same "vocal minority", don't let it get to you.
As for alleg2, I hope that if its done, they do it right. Like many games, it has a large potential to create a sequel that pulls the community over and then ends up being an epic failure of underdeveloped work. This would not only kill alleg2 but in the process would also kill alleg1. It would be very difficult to come back from that. So please, if you're involved in this try to make sure its done properly.
