A bizarre choice is that there are no engine trails and no booster plumes. The ships just flit about without good indicators for the 3d movement, and no good visual cues for when they are engaging the afterburner. Still, I'm more hopeful again that I may get an enjoyable game from my investment some day.
i just watched your youtube link. it was lame. ships flying in space as if they're airplanes. thumbs down.

They don't. It's fully 6 DoF, and anybody trying to fly like an atmospheric jet is easy fodder for an Allegiance veteran. I just picked the first hit that I got. I fly with analogue translation control with a mini-stick on my CH throttle.

Is it really possible you guys don't know how ships in Elite fly?

Here you go Terran. Isinona showing how it's done:

(Now this guy is a nutter, and flies with Flight Assist off all the time, meaning the ship isn't stabilised and he need to counter-thrust to every rotation.)

The key is that you think all the promises and plans about SC will become glorious reality, while you've somehow decided that the massively ambitious plans of Elite don't count because the game has been "released" and hence it's done and can never improve.

I'm sorry, it's pointless trying to debate you because this is like talking to a crazy person.

Not that it will help you, but I'll leave this little sample of dogfighting e-sport gameplay here for the others.

Wow, the ships can drive forward, and rotate at the same time? If that is what you think is exciting gameply, well.. I thought that clip perfectly exemplified how insipid E;D combat is. Super Mario Karts has as much strategy and more intensity.

Frontier has been clear. That is your engine. They are finished, the game is complete. Now there are just "expansions". It isn't improving qualitatively. When, I think it was TA, said E;D was a mile wide and an inch deep, I really didn't know what he meant. It's clear as a bell, now.

Star Citizen has also been clear. In fact, they are far clearer than Frontier. There is no rational reason to suspect they won't deliver. Unlike Frontier, they are focused on the experience and the gameplay. They have the money to do it, and the basics of most of what they have promised is already proven and delivered, if not polished.

I rest my case. Enjoy your game. I can guarantee I'll enjoy mine.

I've been kicking all kinds of arse in there once I realised how to make best use of the agility of the fastest ship. If you decide to get the game and want to have a go, just poke me. Best feel is when the matchmaking screws up and puts me in a 3 vs. 4 match against "veterans", and I take them to school anyway.

Do you have any idea what compute shaders are? This still reads like the ramblings of a cultist man. The engine is being developed all the time, pushing the envelope. CIG made a big song and dance about "physically based rendering" and changing the engine to 64 bit precision. The Cobra Engine has had those from the start, and uses 128 bit precision to enable the essentially unlimited play area.

You are talking out of your arse with this "has been clear". It has nothing to do with the FD:s plans or statements, and everything to do with your weird prejudices. One thing is that FD are focusing on VR support, which seems to have dropped off the radar for CIG. Heck, 2.0 even removed support for Track I.R. because Calix seems to think it's unfair. That's pretty rich after there was a stretch goal about supporting all PC peripherals and sim-pits.
