you could talk to that annoying guy s3n7in3l, hes been for over 6 years and still sucks, and complains because he cant win games, mostly because he cares to enjoy the game more by playing even games with both vets and new players splitted and mixed up THAN focus on effectively WIN, without success. He likes the game too much to ignore its existence.Feriol wrote:QUOTE (Feriol @ Nov 27 2014, 11:42 AM) Having tried to get into this game and failed i still find myself being tempted. I am excited by the potential of playing this game, but i'm denied a way to experience it.
I never experienced any harassment, but unlike many other games, with this one you depend on the community to be able to play.
I was dependent on the community to learn the game, and encountered a forgivable lack of patience. I feel that different game modes such as capture the flag would be an easier introduction to the game, and reduce the dependence on other players. If i could log on and have a fun game, and improve my skills even if there are only 1 or 2 other players online, it would be worth re-installing.
The games setup and the apparent attitude of the community could barely be more discouraging if it was deliberate.
If this changes i would be glad to hear about it.
Why don't more people play this game?
I try to help new players as much as I can, but in the middle of a game there is usually so much going on that it's hard to play and simultaneously give instruction, especially if it's in chat.Feriol wrote:QUOTE (Feriol @ Nov 27 2014, 10:42 AM) Having tried to get into this game and failed i still find myself being tempted. It's highly recommended to get on Mumble so it's easier to get help during the game. Also, you can usually get someone post-game to answer questions or even start a training game session away from the hustle and bustle of the main game.
Also, the Quick Crash Course is a good "getting started" resource, and has some very good links at the end for going into further detail.

Yeah, this is the bigest problem of alleg. PPL won't stay bcos there are no plays during weekdays. So I ask, would it be too hard to program single player game vs AI? With options - AI commander/I will be commander? And at least 2 difficulties (easy/hard). I am no programmer but I think if you managed to do that, there would be much more players bcos this game is kind of awesome... And if you get frustrated, you just have a chance to kick some AI ass...
Thi is biggest issue for Euro ppl bcos there is nobody online during euro time. So ppl just leave. Doesn't even matter if you get message after installation that plays occurs only during weekend.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
Re: Cadet.
What is the commitment required on this? I'm a married man in England so it would probably be difficult to match schedules and promise to be around at certain times.
I Tried the tutorial, but the keyboard map was unworkable and i don't think it could be changed?
i resorted to starting my own server when i wanted to practice, and managed to get a key map i was comfortable with, and eventually felt like i could handle flight controls, but i rarely had opportunity to get into a game and learn beyond that.

You can change the keyboard map to something easier, map your thrusts to wasd and rolls to q and e, chaff to spacebar. That's usually a good spot to start, find the rest of what works for you. Cloak, probes/prox, other ship functions are important to keep handy as well.Feriol wrote:QUOTE (Feriol @ Nov 27 2014, 06:24 PM) Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Cadet commitment, I can't answer that question, leaving it for Kumquat.

I'm 100% sure that you can change the keymap for the "Combat Arena" tutorial but I'm not sure if you have to set them directly there or the bindings persist from normal games...Feriol wrote:QUOTE (Feriol @ Nov 27 2014, 11:24 PM) I Tried the tutorial, but the keyboard map was unworkable and i don't think it could be changed?
As for other tutorials I don't know

In any tutorial, go to "Change keymap", make zero changes, click "Accept changes". Voila, your own keymap is applied.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

It's not boring information, either. I enjoyed it. Doesn't make it a chore.
