Pretty much a 10 year old Adept's thinking on religion. I haven't felt the need to revise it much since then.

The first two paragraphs were OK, then it went off on a crazy tangent.

Some letters written in by people are so stupid. Some examples I've seen in the last couple of weeks...

"Inter-rail tickets are just another UK stealth tax"

"I don't want high speed rail. We will end up paying for it twice - now with current fares and again with the fares on the new trains. I want 50% of my fares back now!" (what?! You mean building stuff incurs up-front costs AND running costs?! Surely teh railway fairies keep running costs at zero?)

"Our housing estate already has the population density of London. If this care home is built that will go up to Moscow levels meaning we will be living in third-world conditions" (Nimbyism at its worst. Let's extend this argument - the population density in the 1 square meter I am in is higher than any city in the world! Therefore I live in appalling conditions!)

"Make MP's work for free & support themselves with a proper job, like the rest of us" (Errr OK. Being an MP clearly isn't a job in itself)

The navel gazing, recriminations, and finger pointing has begun. The next step down the rode to ruin will be when sides are drawn and each one is "stupid". Then what happens is they' fight about it for awhile, a political @#(!storm brews which results in *facepalm* laws that polarize both sides and people begin taking extreme actions and their world view changes forever.

I'm telling you now. Stop demonizing those you think are wrong, and over analysising things this way leads to ruin

My points are.

1. You can't integrate people into society by punishing them once they have become the finished product of their upbringing. You have to punish them, obviously, but you aren't going to change their moral roadmap by doing it. The next generation is the one we need to focus on, lest we are happy to do this all over again in perpetuity.

2. You can't allow government to decide that it is OK to switch mobile phone networks or parts of them off as they see fit. If you do, be prepared to live in a Western China or Iran. Laws like that are abused, no matter what the good intentions were when they were introduced.

3. The police have to clear up the mess created by government policy. When I heard the ridiculous statements coming out of Downing Street about how the situation was only brought under control once the government stepped in (which they hastily backtracked on when this was refuted by the Met.). I wondered if I was the only once doing a Laurel & Hardy double take at the radio. The whole thing was a product of their (& previous regimes) inept policy. All they focus on is kicking the @#(! out people, which is easy. The difficult trick is getting to the kids on crappy estates and giving them some kind of hope for the future, and access to a stake in society, so their only role models aren't drug dealers and housebreakers.

4. How the $#@! is kicking people out of their council houses & stopping their benefits going to make them less inclined to having a row in the future exactly? Let me think, people feel disenfranchised. One member of the family pinches a crate of water and everybody is thrown out on the street. Is it me or is this going to make people feel even less engaged with the wider community and even more likely to head into criminality? Too much emphasis on revenge, not enough on fixing the issues.

Btw this was a big'un the rest not even as bad as the soccer hooligan days... come to think of it the dogs, moat, fire, and fences etc made me wonder if you were a bunch of ignorant savages. Rioting over sports I can see, especially if it was hockey, but soccer
