I actually agree with much of what you say Kage (especially on the training missions). But we are slightly hamstrung by the things that developers want to spend their time on there.

I would absolutely love to see better/new training missions (perhaps scrip-table from outside the code so more of the community could help with writing missions), but no-one has stepped up to do it, yet I personally think it's one of the most important thing for the community a developer could do, if he had the time and effort.

The forums and stuff with game accounts are moving towards upgrades which should provide some of what you look for at least.

I especially agree with what he said about the front page, that video does look like garbage.

Had a co-worker who I mentioned the game to recently and he popped in over the weekend for a look see. Interestingly enough he got a completely different impression of the game from the front page and the forum content. The vast majority of players who do download never play more then a few games and most of those play exactly one (that counts fro them). Saw the numbers myself.

Looking at it from a different angle, after my experiences with providing things to the community I'd think long and hard before doing it again. One thing I did learn was that many times the masses clue level isn't high enough to figure out who and what they should have their panties in a wad about in the first place.

A comment to Kage. When you expanded on your point in last post you came across as knowledgable, intellegent, with a strong point... the earlier ones tend to come across as sour grapes and even a wee bit trollish. It doesn't help you are fighting with both Imafo and TigerEye... about as polar opposite as one can in the Allegiance community

What was the co-workers response to it?
I noticed some of the older folks I show the game to (Well, the more tech savvy ones) seem more interested in it than the younger ones.

Whatever we do with accessibly, it doesn't help change the fact that this game will never appeal to the masses unless changes are made that will greatly disappoint many users.

But, just because we have an 'Allegiance for dummies" doesn't mean we still can't have our more complicated games... Just don't expect the majority of the idiots to choose that over the easier modes.
It is Karnage! Don Karnage! Roll the r!

Well, I've always been in favor of making the game prettier i.e. bringing the models and graphics/lighting engines up to 21st century standards. The argument "people with older computer wouldn't be able to play" has always been lame. Screw them. If you can't afford a decent computer today, you are either a bum, or you are 14 years old. There is nothing that should be done with the learning curve of the game itself. The complexity is what makes the game awesome. However, I agree with Kage that one should be able to download install and go. Things like tuyorials could be made a lot easier for the newbs (why not cover CDT-I material IN THE TUTORIALS?). The forum is too full of drama and not enough talk about actual game play. Maybe its because nobody plays anymore? I still love the game - but Kage makes some fine points. In paticular, ya gotta modernize the look, and ya gotta make playing a joining the community easy...note, I didn't same gameplay easy, but starting to play. How about some comm tutorials that teach basics of commanding. How and what to build and why. How to manage miners, technology trees....If only I could code. And knew how to play well. And could comm a game myself. And ever kissed a girl.

i was trying to get Orion's add-on tool included in the installer back like a year ago (about a month after he released the first beta)...

Orion didn't feel it was finished at the time and ready to be part of the Setup.

This would be a good way to go to get noobs hi-res textures?

Even if those problems had been fixed he said he didn't have the server infrastructure to handle all of the traffic. Madpeeps was working on a similar program if I remember correctly?
