Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Apr 25 2010, 02:56 PM) Here's a change for you: all the sucky squads should just stop sucking. Yeah, I know, "easy for him to say, he's some newbie and in super-squad XT to boot", right? Well, guess what? Every currently uber squad sucked at one point. XT and SysX and RT and PK were all once new squads, just like all the rest, and all of them have had low periods where they sucked for a while but got their @#(! together and came back stronger than ever; in particular, XT spent most of 2009 in a nasty slump, and SysX was in similarly bad shape just a few years ago. But instead of whining about how other squads were hogging all the talent, we stepped up our recruiting, worked on our teamwork, and grew some $#@!ing balls and that's pretty much all it took to start stomping squads into the dirt.
In some things you are so clueless it hurts. Low points for XT and SYSX meant they lost a game or two to the PKs and RTs - they still dominated the lower tier squads during their "low points." And you weren't around when they were new, so how the $#@! do you know how good they were or not back then? As for RT, I was there when it started, and it took them years to learn to play.

As for XT, take a look at their roster and compare it to ACE's roster from about a year ago, and you'll note 5 very good players who used to be ACE. Not to start drama, as far as I know those folks were not recruited - they left ACE of their own accord, for their own reasons, then sought to join XT. But somehow Jimen I think they might have more to do with XT's sudden resurgence than a couple of green cadets such as yourself.

Oh BTW do you know what caused XT's "low point?" When ACE started, a whole bunch of vet XTs left to form it.

I do realize that how good a squad is depends on more than just the individual players. By the same token, I've been here for years and watched as talent defects from the lower-tier squads to the better squads over time. You watch that happen, and then wonder why XT or SYSX can go on year-long winning streaks? Come on now.

I am not whining, ffs I don't even play. I'm merely pointing out your options. As I said, if you are happy with the status quo, carry on.

I don't think cadet recruiting is really the issue - the quickest way to voob up your squad is to recruit a bunch of green cadets

You're mixing up cause and effect. The lower-tier squads aren't getting worse because all their talent's leaving - all their talent's leaving because the lower-tier squads are getting worse. When the squad gets so voobied up that their few remaining skilled players feel the squad can no longer be saved, they flee like rats from a sinking ship (and typically go to the least vooby of squads). Typically it's cause the squad leadership sucks, and all the squad rules in the world won't change that.

I love how your psychic powers give you a fantastic insight into the inner workings of squads you have $#@! all to do with jimen.

Keep it up. I need the giggles.

I recruited Jimen in December when we were still turning around. He joined whilst we were getting our act together and as a result of that he learned a lot about core Allegiance gameplay around the time when I pretty much wrote the book on how to play a Squad Game for XT.

Okay you may not know this but there is such a thing as a FORUM HISTORY. There is such thing as a SQUAD's HISTORY. Jimen is a bit off the mark with how XT was for it's inception and resurrection, but he is not incorrect about how utterly bad XT sucked in 2009. It is why you can not find a single trace of any records indicating 2009 was even a year that existed for XT :P

Also, TA don't throw shots about cluelessness when you live in a glass house.

P.S. Orion, if I joined PK to save your squad would you quit or stay, I'm mildly curious :P

so why don't you use that glorious forum history and point out precisely where you think I'm wrong? how about just give me a hint as to what you think was wrong about my post?

oh hell i'll do you one better. According to ACE's squad history page, we went 1 and 1 with XT in the 2009 squad tourney. So I guess XT wasn't that terrible if they were still beating one of the better lower tier squads, eh?

Unlike you, I pay attention to what people post on the forums, and I read between the lines of how people react to things. I can tell a lot from any piece of forum drama that's sufficiently public, and there's been more than enough high-profile vets switching squads in the last four months that all it took was connecting some dots and noting what each instance had in common.

Because I simply don't feel like putting in the effort to prove you wrong.

We lost to SF twice in 2009, if that doesn't qualify as a low-point for any squad than I don't know what does.
