When you joined we had an incredible amount of players. I am not to sad that numbers dropped a bit. I prefer games of 10-15 per side. :)

Finally we see the problem. This aditude explains a whole lot about game size and newbie retention.

I take offence at that Sambasti.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Sabasti, not really. I don't scare them away, I help new people to join the game in the helpline. I do not let my personal preferences interfere with that. For me it meant not playing the game, when it was too large. Nothing unfriendly in it.

I should play at Narg's time, then. That used to be my prime time.

Grimmwolf is one of the best Sambasti. He may have a point about PuG sizes, but that just means we'll have to start capping games to 40 or 50 players, and have many games going at once... if we get the numbers back high enough for that. Here's hoping.

I think the biggest threat to allegiance is not new players being driven off, but cranky old vets leaving.
The fact that XT only has 6 more active members then SPQR scares the hell out of me. They are the back bone of this community, and without them the game is finished. As of right now, we have a fairly steady flow of new players which is just fine. In fact, if we instigate a huge wave of new players PUGs will deteriorate and vets will leave. What we need to focus on is getting people back who left years ago. We need to get out the message that allegiance is still up and running and is in fact better then it probably ever was. The fact that every few weeks a returning vet posts "I had no idea this game was still around!" means we are doing not a very good job at this. If we can get those vets back, many more vets who play very little will play more again, PUGs will improve, squads will improve, and the community will be safe. I know many of you old timer vets still know a lot of ex alleg people through other games, or know the kind of forums and websites those ex allegaholics are probably visiting often. Get them back.

I fail to see how XT is the 'backbone' of the community. Just because they have been 'the best' for a long time doesn't mean that they are the backbone. Any one squad could dissolve and it wouldn't hurt the community a serious amount. Hell, any two or even three squads, and the community would still stick.

And also, it's not like we can go out and advertise. I believe that advertising like that would make Alleg a 'commercial' thing, which would invalidate the use of its source code. And word of mouth (or text, as the case may be) can only get you so far - you are not going to reach everyone, period. IT just won't happen.

I'm almost certain that as long as no-one makes any *money* off of Allegiance, it's okay to advertise it as much as you want, and it won't violate the terms under which the source code was released. I'm not certain, but I really think as long as Allegiance stays free, it wouldn't matter whether it's advertised or not...

Spidey, make it so.
Please don't ask Spidey to command Rix, it's a mockery. Anyway Rix Expremacy is my specialty, but Rix Expyard (depending on the situation) is often more powerful.
