For those requesting more noob friendliness have you considered that the current attitude towards noobs acts as a filter against personality types that we don't want in the community? I've yet so see any real griefers, pretty much everyone can take a joke, pretty much everyone can take a real meant-to-hurt insult and the people that stick around after the initial abuse try to be knowledgeable about the game.
Having a niche market is not a bad thing, it lets you keep the style of play that you want. If you look at games like Tribes 2 that have become free and have a ton of players you'll see there's nothing left of the original game, it's all horrible cheesy mods and a bunch of idiots playing. I think the difficulty of alleg, the time required for a single game and the community's resistance to those kinds of players keeps the quality of the game at a reasonable level, but at the price of a small community.
In short, the kinds of players that don't stick around are the kinds of players that would ultimately ruin the game for everyone.

Being insulting and dismissive towards new players is not a good filter. The very nature of Allegiance will make sure that only those who want a complex and challenging game will stay. No need to add the requirement of enduring insults when you are still learning the basics.

Hey there, newb here.
I"m REALLY discouraged from playing Allegiance just from the fact that its hard to get on a team. A game was starting, the game name was MAIN, I don't remember who were commanders and such. Anyways. I was trying to get onto one team, as was another newb after me, and then a intermediate requested. The inter. got accepted and me and the other newb did now.. at the start of the game. So I'm just curious if people don't seem to realize that they were all new to this game at one point as well, and that I am trying to learn everything about the game. Yes I can't shoot my target and fly properly at the same time (stick me in a turret, hurray problem solved), but I make an effort to make the game enjoyable and I do my best to co-operate with my commander when he directly tells me what to do or a team member gives me 'friendly' advice. Even when other players outright insult me, without any constructive criticism. Gotta love those "Get off the fu*king team newb!" comments, that really inspires me to be a better player... (for those with little or no intellect that was sarcasm).
Not all commanders I find are bad, this was the second time it happened. Out of quite a few games, so not a big deal, I just hope it doesn't continue. Either way, there are many commanders who are pro-newb as well as other players who aren't com. I met this one player who gave me pointers on a lot of things and I hadn't asked, I was grateful. I'm not asking for special treatment or for other players to stop and teach me what to do step by step. But for all you know I'm a 50 year old who's played space games for 35 years and I could shoot circles around you. (I'm 19 and this is my 2nd space shooting simulation I've ever played... and probably like my 20th videogame in general...lol *newb*)
So there's my rant and contribution mixed into one.

Hang in there Xyar! That does happen on the main server alot. The problem is most comms want to win....badly.If thier is a good match of comms the game will be close for a long time.Accepting a newb can make the difference between winning and losing. There usually is a side game going that you can join or you can PM other newer players and see if they want to start a side game. The current problem is thier are not enough very confident commanders that can accept newbs without worrying that the above will happen.Hell,I've been playing for years and I can't command to save my life (can't remember what tech paths go to what factions,situations,etc.).This is why it's a good idea to have newb commanders face off on the main server. The gameplay will be less predictable and more newbs will be able to play in a big game.

Stick with it Xyar, the rules are very clear. Everybody get's to play.
Hopefully what you've experienced is more of a case of trying to get even teams than anything else. We try to get the inexperienced pilots to join up evenly on both sides, as that should result in the best game experience for all.

try joining the team with the least newbies on it / the one with most vets.
if a comm has most of the newbies, he generally won't accept any more until the other team gets some, but he will accept better players to try and even the teams.
it is no fun if all the newbies all pile onto one side (which they do for some reason) since that team gets beaten up with no contest.
if teams are even in number of newbies, choose whichever you want, otherwise join the team with least newbies. if you can't get on one team, try joining the other.

Everyone can call a game "main game", it doesn't mean anything.

I've had that happen to me before, that I don't really consider newb-discrimination /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> So that I can understand just fine.

Yeah the last time I wasn't put on a team, the guy had 0 noobs on his team. The other team had 2 or 3, and I couldnt even join the other team because it would be unbalanced. So that's where the problem was for me.

Was just saying *shrug*

#autoaccept ftw
When i'm just "filling" the comm slot because no good comm would, I often left aa on. TBH, during the times where there is 15 people on total (including NOAT) then having a game, stacked or not, is better than not having a game at all.
I've argued this with some people recently but I think most agree with me.
