Re: Pico
I repeat:
QUOTE you'll just have vets playing "vet only" games
What makes you think the "stackers only" server won't be the main server?
Wow a server where I can play with people who aren't complete noobs and I don't have to ever worry about getting banned because someone decided I stacked (according to a purely subjective evaulation)! Why wouldn't I spend all my time on that server?
So admins ban stackers now?

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
I'd just like BV and TE to also remember that a very large majority of us are adults here. We aren't your children and we aren't "below" you. We're here to play a game we share a common interest with, and you deciding BY YOURSELVES w/o an agreed upon set of rules who gets a ban and who doesn't is insulting and arrogant. You've decided on your own accord to give up valuable free time to moderate and run this game... that's great. But that doesn't give you the power to decide by yourselves who gets to play and who doesn't. I for one will leave the game for good if this gets out of hand. It sounds that, for now, it isn't some rampant thing, but if and when it gets out of hand, I'll be the first one to walk away with my middle finger prominently raised. I didn't "elect" either of you and I sure as hell won't be treated like I'm some subordinate.
I made that post about how I'd never leave the community, but if you two decide to be some nerdy version of Saddam Hussein, I won't stick around to experience it. Totally not worth it. Something tells me that I'm not the only one.
You say you were shocked, TE? Maybe you should open your eyes and realize that we're all real people as well. We don't want nor need you telling us how to play, and we never have.
This isn't a government and you aren't our leaders. This is a game where you two are here to moderate, nothing else. If you don't like it, freakin' leave. Something tells me that after an initial few bumps in the road, Alleg will go on for many more years just as it always has. We survived MS ditching us and we sure as hell will survive BV and TE leaving, and please don't humor yourselves by thinking otherwise. You guys are a valuable asset and make things run nice and smooth, but you aren't required. The only thing required is the community's dedication to the game -- not you two.
Grow up, guys. Stacking isn't a bannable offense. Annoying? Yes. Ruins the game? Not so much. Just deal with it like we've all dealt with it for 8 years and try to enjoy yourselves.

Don't bait the community. "I'll do this with my power, it sounds like fun" would be baiting & provoking anger. TE has every right to go off like anyone else, but doing it as a policy announcement might not be good. Yes people respect the work that the admins put in, but this won't solve anything.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Mar 23 2008, 03:51 PM) Wow.
I definitely expected a reaction after what has happened over the last two days, but let's just say I did not expect to see some of you reacting in these ways. I honestly am amazed.
I really want to move on after this, but it's likely better to let things "sink in" first before continuing.
On another note, I wonder how our words will be read in the future? When looking back at any event, it's always judged with the knowledge and viewpoint of what has been learned since that event. I wonder how the future will read these words and this situation?
I guess I don't have to wait long to find out.
This anti-stack message needs to sink in more. I think I'll log ingame and find some other stacker to ban for another arbitrary amount of time. Sounds fun.

Yes blatant newbie bashing stacking should be bannable, Allegiance forums likes drama and such, but major changes in policy should be presented in an official professional format.
If there had been a ban, and then an official post on the forum of "We will ban blatant stakers, we view this as newbie abuse, it's in the RoC..." wouldn't there be so much less headaches?
I have nothing against the administration, have never had a problem here. BV did a great job during my time in CDT, I haven't personally talked much 1on1 with TE, I just wanted to say this.

Wrong. All MS did was releasing the source code for the game. Those 'few people with power' are the guys paying for the servers you play on, the lobby server and those forums (Thalgor owns FAO forums and the lobby server). TE and BV have taken over the reign after Thalgor and Pook retired and appointed those two for the leadership positions. That gives them all the right in the world to do whatever they feel like to the boards and servers they own.oderus wrote:QUOTE (oderus @ Mar 23 2008, 08:12 AM) so tell me if this is comunity game then why cant we make servers and let those people in we want. Microsoft made the game free to play right . then why do only a couple people have power over it?
QUOTE Anyway all you have to do to not stack is just lose about a dozen games and get your rank down to inter 3 then youy cant stack most games.
WRONG. Current raniking system is so inaccurate, it can't really be used to measure players' skill levels. There are awesome pilots flying with a (10) by their names, while there are clueless voobs with (20). Common sense > ELO. Also, what you're talking about there is called 'rank manipulation'.
QUOTE Preety bogus of you banning beer hes about the nicest guy ive met in the game and picking him out of the crowed is bull and you know it. so many people do so much worse here .
Power hungry and its sad. Grow up folks and at least be fair . Ive seen this kind of thing in other games .
I don't know if BEER deserved the ban or not, but I wouldn't call BV or TE 'powerhungry' in either case. This is one of the most liberal gaming communities I've been to, mostly thanks to those guys. Try going to some other game's boards and criticise admin's or mod's decission. Start counting till your post is deleted and your ass baned 'for undermining ruler's authority'.
From what I see here, the guys in charge got seriously pissed off (finally). Note, that stacking (esp. small games) is what drives the new guys away. This game will slowly die without fresh blood.
Feh, I got the drama all over me... I need to shower now :/
