What's the type where you get podded and keep grabbin' that int and holding down tab (and then as you get podded again do it again as their damaged hull means you have more chance).

Having tried to get into this game and failed i still find myself being tempted. I am excited by the potential of playing this game, but i'm denied a way to experience it.

I never experienced any harassment, but unlike many other games, with this one you depend on the community to be able to play.

I was dependent on the community to learn the game, and encountered a forgivable lack of patience. I feel that different game modes such as capture the flag would be an easier introduction to the game, and reduce the dependence on other players. If i could log on and have a fun game, and improve my skills even if there are only 1 or 2 other players online, it would be worth re-installing.

The games setup and the apparent attitude of the community could barely be more discouraging if it was deliberate.

If this changes i would be glad to hear about it.

Play on weekends, starting Friday night at 6 pm eastern, 20:00 GMT.
There are a larger amount of players on then. Announce you are new and are trying to learn.

I will be damned if you don't get at least five people trying to help you.

When I started playing the highlight of the week was 7v7 on Sunday (imagine the rest of the week). So when I wanted to play alleg and there was no games I was training. Here are some tips:

I suggest playing the combat arena in the tutorial until you can survive infinite amount of rounds against the bots and then ask someone to further improve your skill if you wish(after a normal game take notice who has high number of kills and ask them to show you a few tricks, I wasn't denied and I doubt that you will be)

I also suggest reading the wiki on all game mechanics stuff first, there isn't really all that much and even though some stuff is outdated its still useful. Ask a few people to observe their commanding and by all means ask why has he done something that appears odd to you (just make sure you tell them what you are doing so you don't appear inactive and get booted).

To practice the sense of the bloody payday beep, miner handling, finding alephs quickly etc... I suggest creating a game where you can play yourself and just try to keep the mining chain going while scouting (disable one of the teams).

For pure maneuvering you either figure out how ships best behave yourself and then boost/fly around rocks, or ask someone to show you how to fly efficiently and then boost around rocks

Unfortunately the feel for signature management can only be learned in a game versus human opponents so you'll just to get to podded a few hundred times

Other tricks and general game feel (like can I kill that (ammo/missile issues), do I have enough fuel, can my interceptor scout?) you can gradually pick up while you are playing.

There is sure a lot to learn in order to be proficient in allegiance and there is no easy way around training/learning (whether you'll be training on drones or people you'll get podded quite a few times), but if you like space sims its 100% worth it.

P.S. All of that "create your own game" applies to when there are no games going on and you think could pour some time into training

P.P.P.S. Because of the recent flood of returning players (that are currently ranked low on the scoreboard) we mostly stopped bothering to ask people with (0) beside their name if they are new, please understand and excuse that.
