Education here is pretty accessible. There are problems, like rising tuition costs and rising student loan debt. Actually I think efforts at making it easier to get student loans have probably contributed to rising tuition costs as camEro points out.
However, I think a larger point is that you don't necessarily need post secondary education to make a good living in the US. See Bill Gates, or 5 of my uncles, or about 50% of my clients who do things like ironwork, electrical, plumbing, etc., none of whom have college degrees.
