Those "Iron Dome" missile defense systems Israel have ARE pretty pimp though. Its shot down 192 missiles successfully since LAST WEDNESDAY. I remember the US having something similar in Afghanistan, because their major bases were having a similar problem (rocket mortar fire from the taliban all the time).
This article talks about how Israel only has a handful, but work so well that they are buying more-- to the tune of 63 million a piece. (is that a lot?)
Once republicans hear about this, they are gonna want a similar "Mexican Dome" defense system for the border.

Move Palestinians to Finland because the mean nasty Israelis are evil and blockading Palestine and Palestinians only fire rockets in self defence.

i've reached the conclusion that the only way to deal with violent people who refuse to be reasonable is to kill them. Or at least lock them up for life. You call it genocide, I call it making the world a better place.
Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Nov 16 2012, 03:04 AM) Israel have tried taking a hard line with Hamas in Gaza and it clearly doesn't work because Hamas are still firing rockets into Israel. Negotiation is the way forward, see Northern Ireland for proof that it can work, and frankly I see the Israeli government as being more persuadable to stop hostilities and open negotiations than I do Hamas.
By that logic, negotiations clearly don't work because Israel has been trying that @#(! for years.

Worked pretty well in WWI, WWII, Civil war, american revolution, etc etc.

Well obviously TA represents the pessimistic view.
As far as qqqqq, i think most of the world recognizes Israel's response to the rocket attacks as
legitimate, but not everyone thinks it is
smart. My concern is that they have been in a state of war with Hamas for 4-5 years now with basically no plan at all on ending it. Sure, Israel has short-term plans like destroying ammo dumps and assassinating military commanders, but how will that change anything? Those guys still hate Israel, that hasnt changed and consequently neither will the rocket attacks. You cant possibly neutralize every person who hates the Jews, it's ridiculous.
You cant kill an ideology, you have to ultimately get the other side to want what you want; peace. These are the realities, and if Israel doesn't deal with them they are dooming themselves to more of the same. You dont like rocket attacks? Well stop forcing the Palestinians into little reservations with walls all around them because of the actions of radical militants. You want the local population to stop supporting local terrorist organizations? Guess what, Airstrikes dont have that added effect.
Learn the lessons the US has learned in counter-terrorism efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

from a palestinian advocates group, but correlates well with the
maps from this wikipedia page.
Israel has studied history well. If you manage to hold on to something, after a hundred years nobody is going to give a @#(! about how you got it.
