If you can set it up, find a few people to maintain it and get players to test it I will pick up the tab.
I know nothing about servers but I have some extra cash and am willing to help out. Also I think I can use it as a business write off.

I had the pleasure and honor in guest- and co-maintaining some ex-gameservers, including Mr C's.
The problems that I noticed are:
- the "tab" is far more expensive than many people realize. Rough rule of thumb 500 USD / year.
- VM based servers behave not very well with Alleg gameplay. It causes "spikes" and "lagpeaks". A dedicated server is preferred (and more costly).
- you can bet your fresh server will be (continuous) attacked by haxors, bitcoiners, spammers, ex alleg players. Recommended at least 2 admins in 2 different time zones.
- a strong stomach might be needed for some "critics" which want or don't want feature X / Map Y / Faction Z, or notice a statistical problem in their l33t skills.
Again, my 2 cents, some have other experiences

While dedicated is always preferred, there is no reason Allegiance server should not run fine on a good virtual server. I am hopeful that a good Windows VPS / Cloud server can be found for around $15/month or at least under $20. I have run game servers on $25/year virtual servers although currently spending $7 each per month on my current Linux VPS game servers to be in data centers with slightly lower latency.
Seems a bit exaggerated about the server attacks. Unless there really are still ex Allegiance players actively attacking Allegiance servers, I don't think it should be of much concern.
Is there an up to date Allegiance server setup guide anywhere? Or anyone who can write one up or walk me through it? Would be up for testing it out on an Amazon EC2 instance just to see how it performs.

Right now it seems Mach3 is the only one being used. I've seen weedman in a few Sunday games, is he in charge of Planet?

I now have a server running on an EC2 instance that you can test. Again EC2 has good pings, not the best though. So will keep looking for any reasonably priced Windows servers in North East USA, but EC2 is probably fine. Not running TAG yet.

Whats the problem with CSS? Used to work well from what I recall when we played there.

I believe ACSS and the lobby server are hosted on CSS so when we use it as a gameserver and it crashes due to bad code or whatever then everything goes down.

I been asked to rise from the dead to comment here.
I was the guy shelling out the coin and who absorbed the "community lovin" awhile back. It was an uphill stroke all the way and if for not gents like SgtBaker, Peet, and FreeBeer I'd have stepped on my Johnson way quicker then I did on this one.
A VM is an awful idea and what drove Cable away from the game,
absolutely do not do it. The code that drives the game isn't all that robust or some such thing (don't grind your teeth at me pkk). Whatever caused things to slide down hill aside I spent a good amount of cabbage (my provider was the exact same provider for the three letter agency who has been in the press) and it didn't keep away the lag whiners. I was on the backbone to three continents and I was paying in multiples of Peet's guess but it matter not a bit when it all went south.
Regarding Peet, if you ever had the pleasure of being his squaddie you would already know this, he is as far as you can get from a drama llama like yours truly. Allegiance is ancient in terms of internet gaming and has a legion of ancient haters as a result.
Maybe things changed in the last year or two but it is not a trivial matter and you are biting off something a wee bit bigger then you may expect.
I am now off again and please understand that I did this out of respect to specifically as I had and have no plans on returning.

Ok, is there something that needs to be done to see if we can get better connectivity on the current servers? Do you need someone to help Admin them? I'll give it a shot..if that's practicable.
/ Thanks for checking in and helping Mr. C!
