I have two problems: First, in the second mission of training, when the camera is supposed to auto move me, instead the background disappears, but leaving the hub (so i can at least quit the mission) and nothing else happens; Second, there is no other spot I can find on the forums to post this, so this is the only place I can turn to.

Any "permanent" or "persistent" game has that issue. It's just the permanent ones tend to be marked "Newbie" but it doesn't have to be the case. A Zone Game will often be set up this way, too.

afaik that mission is broken and site feedback would be where you could have posted about it, but as it has been like it for a long time so it is already known about so here was probably a better place to ask anyway to avoid the less er...generous members of our community

I use a joystick. If I start sidethrusting does this cut my top speed forward significantly? Or am i then only on thrusters and the main drive shuts off?

Does thrusting forward add to the speed or do I stay at roughly 125 m/s in a scout? Didn't check the HUD as I was under fire at the time.

When I thrust say both up and sideways at the same time, does the total thrust get split between the 2 directions? Moving diagonal makes it a bit more difficult to track you, but only if I can get maximum displacement on my forward vector in a surprising direction.

Approximately how much playtime is advised before applying for CDT-2?

I though I had done much more, but found I only have about 4 to 5 hours under my belt, because I often join quite late in a game. The self test was basically ok, except for the tech tree section which was quite hazy. There is enough to learn about scouting on its' own as is.

So should I apply now as it may take some time for the next class to be held?

Yes, apply now. You will be more than ready once the next course starts.

Yesterday's game with fwiffo in the lead was fun. But the slang got me.

Somebody "ate an ab?" Is that an anti base missile?

And what would, pray tell, be something called a "disco ball"?

Thanks in advance

Yes - "ate an AB" means someone flew into the path of an antibase missile so it pretty much podded them (those things hurt yo!).

Getting in the Way of ABs sometimes means you can save a base.

Eating an ab (missile) is exactly that ^^.

And about the disco balls, they are the slang for a Phoenix tech, the "lasser blossoms" that work like Technoflux's plasma generators and are very much deadly. they get the name because they look like a disco ball when they activate.
