The Rebel Genius
TBH this thread and responses reassure me only of the community's eagerness to tell new players not to form squads.Sgt.Pepper wrote:QUOTE (Sgt.Pepper @ Apr 16 2010, 03:10 AM) This thread and responses within reassure me of the helpfulness of the community towards sincere new players.![]()
QUOTE However, there is an issue. Every time I mentioned in the chat that I have a clan, Rebel Genius, and we are looking into joining Allegiance, I got a negative response.[/quote]That. I wish we didn't have as much of that.
Every time someone outside of our little world says "clan", we always think "squad". Squads aren't clans, squads are much more organized and structured than that. Instead of beating the idea of a new squad down to a bloody pulp (which is really what not what they're asking for anyways), let's explain better to new players how they can get all the warm fuzzies of belonging to a close-knit group of friends and learning together in PUGs, without necessarily having to deal with all the competition and drama of squad play.

you need 15 people to play and sign up as a "squad" (clan).
nobody is going to stop you from forming one, you're just gonna be a complete joke from lack of playing ability. it takes a long time to become good at this game.
a squad called SPQR was around not that long ago, had some decent-ok players with nobody being a complete noob, and never managed to win a single squad game (clan match) on its own.

As I have said before, though not quite as clearly, none of that bothers me.
I am not afraid of work or time. Taking years to get skilled at a game is not a new concept.
What I AM afraid of, is RG dieing, again.
I am more convinced than ever that Alliegence is RG's ticket to life. And, if possilbe, I will defenitly follow most of the advice here.

There are individuals who can easily be rubbed the wrong way by an ambitious upstart.
Does anyone else get a solid laugh from tesla talking about 5 people as a 'clan'?
Quite ambitious indeedMalicious Wraith wrote:QUOTE (Malicious Wraith @ Apr 16 2010, 11:52 PM) Also, don't listen to my detractors. There are individuals who can easily be rubbed the wrong way by an ambitious upstart.
I don't see what's so funny about five people considering themselves a clan. Did you forget what the internet looks like outside of Allegiance?
