SmugMug is the only alternative player I can think of and this is only because I have an expensive subscription already with them, but I still feel YouTube is a better choice.

edit: I think the latest version of the player is bugged anyway as it should not autoplay when it loads.

Are you talking about players or services, AEM?

Services with a better player than YouTube or players which have the ability to play YouTube videos and are free of very inexpensive. We won't want to host the videos ourselves. I don't think you can play YouTube videos through Flowplayer and the default JWplayer is uglier than YouTube for sure and I'm not sure of any skin that looks better than YouTube.

I like bacon's look and feel but;

The English is not up to par, slang is not acceptable "tourny" to tournament.
Too many things are in ALL CAPITAL CHARACTERS.
The text style used for "Microsoft Research" looks like crap.
The fact that 5 factions are left out of the info area feels lazy.
It needs to look better on wide screen, make much larger picture for the background to kill the black bars on the side, or at least fade to black.
The button text is fuzzy and hard to read, make the text larger and use a font with plenty of space so that it dose not alias them together, max quality helps too.
There are a lot of smoothed things but there are also a few hard ones, stick with hard or soft transitions.

Whatever is put up there NEEDS to be buffed up and look professional if we expect anyone to take us seriously here, and we don't want to turn people away before they click the download link for Allegiance.

I think the old one is too bland and not interactive and informative, people should be able to get a summary of whats going on in the game told dramatically outside the forms and wiki.
The new ones makes the graphic art perfectionist in me cry.

I don't think the Youtube player is a major issue here - Youtube is super popular, so obviously people are okay with the way its player looks. And while that doesn't mean we can't improve on it, I think it's a piddling, unimportant design detail compared to the much bigger problems that no one seems to want to acknowledge enough to do something about...like the fact that we have an ASGS poll and two threads asking people to critique our current frontpage design, except when they come here and post about it, they get responded to with things like "well that doesn't matter because it's all temporary" and more recently "WELL WE NEVER INTENDED THAT DESIGN TO BE USED IN THE FIRST PLACE RRAGH I AM SO MAD THAT PEOPLE ARE STILL COMMENTING ON THE PAGE THAT IS CURRENTLY THE FAO HOMEPAGE".

If it's not complete and it isn't intended to be used, maybe we should switch the homepage to a design that anyone actually cares about, and take the poll down until we've actually decided on the options? I suspect the poll was put up in the first place because Tigereye wanted to try and force y'all out of perpetual "Two Weeks" status, since it's been a good month or more since he called a cutoff date. I'm going to post my current take on the design in the General thread, since the stuff being discussed there right now is just a bit more relevant and realistic than what video player we should use.

Ok here is a much improved version of my page I created based on the discussion I've read on the concepts. Not exactly the prettiest page, but I think it works well enough.

Hmm after looking at this some more I like how the "Home"/video page looks the least. It might be better to have the About Allegiance page be "Home" and put the video page under home as "Allegiance Videos"

You know nothing Jimen. TE was kept informed. A fluke series of events took me out of the loop. It was never "in two weeks". And it was barely two real weeks behind anyway.

This "mess" you're talking about is a mixture of me being "late" for having a life (which you would think TE would understand considering but oh well, you learn something new everyday about people) and TE just throwing anything up as the main page.

Why am I even replying to you as you will just reply in an argumentive form even though "bacons page shouldn't be there" has been mentioned A LOT and even by bacon himself and was requested BY BACON and myself + all the others in the community to be removed.

Then you get people still slagging him off, and yes I take offence to people slagging bacon off for his work when it/he is being abused like this. That's what decent folk who know what is going on does. I forget the internet is full of people who think they're right always FULL STOP and that things have to be done RIGHT NOW and there is NO EXCUSE or REASON why things can be delayed.



I'm going to stop coming here until I've finished and see what mess you guys get yourselves into. Just take a step back. Chill. TE needs to remove bacons page, either put up AEMs page or Pooks and re-open a conversation between the people who think they're qualified to help.

I hate to be so blunt but the updated front page is so unappealing, I will not be referring people there.

Anything with a video intro on it is better than the old one.The old page looks like any other BS 2d scroller with a story to it.
Then they D/L the actual game and it's BORING.We want them to know BEFORE they bother with the setup and install that it's not BORING.Otherwise they will move on and finally give up on bothering to find a new game as we all have done in the past.
