I wonder... could the developers have picked this word out as a description of the game concept they had in mind.. The commander would be the sovereign, the palyers the subjects or citzens...

Could they have been that "tricky" ..... maybe they choose the name of the game and had no idea of the meaning of the word. You really think that was the case. ?


They gave the commander the boot button for a reason. They did not view the game as a democracy or a given right. They envsioned team work and team effort . They Knew one person could not kill a capital ship. The team concept is in every aspect of the game. They understood that people can be challenged to pull toghter. The developers were not stupid. They understood human nature and the idiots on the internet that would not want to be part of the team. They empowered the commander with the ability to remove people he did not beleive were doing their part to move the team along.

What they did not evension was that we would not have multiple games available so people could go some where else to play if they were booted. They were not cocnerened about a shrinking community.


We are faced with trying to meet the challenge of keeping the community vibrant but we need to remeber the wisdom of the developers. If your not going to command.... then follow the commanders lead or face the boot button at his discression. Conversley.. dont fly for that commander in the future.

Funny but Spidey commands respect. If you argue with Spidey in game... he doesnt care who you are or how good you are. Your booted.. DO what he want's or he will eject you . Most folks know that and let him work his magic or go fly for the other team. Now a day's he pulls of amazing stuff that before people would give him grief for. Now they just follow his lead. His judicious use of the boot button is one of the reason's he is successful. That and his charming personality...


The boot button needs to stay.. The mutiny button is the intelligent counter to a bad commander. Booting the team or the commander both need to be used appropriately. Both topics have been discussed ad nauseum.


What if to boot a commander we make the percentage higher then it is now.


What if to boot a player the Commander initiaited the vote and 50% of the team had to agree... ?

As a new player, it is frustrateing when I get booted for not following orders that were said once, 10 min ago.
That said I totaly understand wanting to boot new players who don't follow orders! However, it is more productive to the team as a whole if you give them a simple task, and tell them exacty where to do it. Then tell them to let you know when its done. I realize this is babysitting, however.. if this player plays with you again, (and chances are good that they will) they will know EXACTLY what you want them to do.
