Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Total noob now, so I'll be able to update you on what I do later on ^^ but I played a few years ago and got rid of my tag so I guess I can apply.
- Commanded, thinking it was smart to put all bases inside home sector
- Had no idea what each faction's differences were other than looks (still kinda don't, but checked on forums)
- Managed to POD MY OWN TEAMS BOMBER on a friendly fire on server because I forgot Nans (funny to look back on)
- Failed in dogfights because I didn't take two things into account, bullet timing, drifting (always thought I was going towards the dot, and the ( ) thing around the dots, I thought that's where my bullets were headed)
- Believed when you ran out of fuel, you couldn't move at all
