You could keep specs buttttttttt....... make them utl shield/hull? =D?

Games would end faster since you will undoubtedly often end up in unwinnable situations. On the other hand, some games would be longer once both teams miners are toast and you have to do bomb runs across the whole map that you have to be super careful with (lots of ripping home to spare bomber costs). Obviously spec teams would be over powered.
I don't think removing paydays is a good idea. You should always have the option of waiting around to get money for a new miner or bomber/HTT to keep the game going forward. Paydaying tech bases and research I could live without.
