QUOTE (moto)7. Graphics: Just personal observations here. Hey, I am actually really happy this is sorta playable on my little netbook!
a. Ok… I know this game is old, but some things are fugly. It is just the style of everything, very… pixilated, bad color choices, screen resolution changes, just plain dated. I quickly found out about the Cort UI thing and modded my installation almost immediately. The default is horrible and that improved things quite a bit. There are other mods I am going to try asap, especially the transparency stuff.
b. And then there is the 3D in game stuff. Bios and Rixian Unity are the only things that looked good to me so far.
c. The overhead view is awesome though. I have learned so much by just watching people dog fight from that view.[/quote]
I've always thought there should be several installers:
A standard installer and an installer with the upgraded textures

Of course... one would just need to send a PM or post an AR to get Wiki edit privs. We don't get the request very often because most people that want to edit the Wiki have been around long enough to have a post count of 50.fuzzylunkin1 wrote:QUOTE (fuzzylunkin1 @ Aug 4 2010, 01:59 PM) I'm sure an administrator can go in and change it on a per-user basis.
I would hope so . . . .
Regarding the general complaints, I hope that people bring them to light more often. Apparently Jimen has had issues with the Wiki for some time, but I don't see much of any discussion happening in the Wiki forums. I'm not particularly concerned with the Wiki issue, I'm more concerned that people are having issues and not bringing attention to them. If something needs attention, start a thread. If you need some action to be taken and the proper ZL hasn't chimed in, start spamming them with PMs. If you don't know where it should go or how to best to take action, drop me a PM. I will either get it to the right person or take the action myself
People don't always know what needs doing. Don't be shy... reach out and contact people to make sure they know about the situation!

I can say the most helpful thing for me so far was going one on one with Masta (or was it Shiz?) while they dropped prox. I died an inhumane amount of times but guess what? I hardly ever get proxed anymore. One on one with a Vet is painful but so, SO friggin' Helpful. Also, scouting gave me insights as to how the game worked. I just kept quiet...scouted the whole match...nanned, explored the UI, the comm UI, clicked every damn thing I could click just to see what id does, remapped my controls (which I still do daily), and got some much needed flight time.
Now I can keep up. I feel myself being useful. I have times where I think "If I hadn't been there when I was; I don't know how that would have turned out".
Also using the F3 Command View to scout helps alot with seeing the workings of commanding. You get to see where The Comm is sending Cons, where OPs get put up, strategic points and miner managing. Also, it's much faster and easier to scout in Command View.
I think a fantastic thing to do would be to create a Mentoring program. AFS is great and all but waiting for next available class for a video game is just a little bit too real for me. Perhaps we could have an established system of experienced volunteers Mentoring new cadets by providing Extremely valuable one on one instruction. It could simultaneously boost player retention and even Squad Rosters. It would be a fairly simple system that would be available immediately to the new player and would likely make acclimating to this wonderfully complex and in-depth game a bit less nauseating.
Just my .02 cents.
