_SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Sep 29 2009, 01:24 AM) So after 2 pages bitching about booting noobs who are protected, am I the only one to bother to check Phal's rank and see he is not a noob?
Edit: I should say I totally agree some comms boot way more than is necessary but some people just don't listen. I have lost count how many times I have had people on my team try to galv IC (and no, they were not noobs either).
I made that Rank in 20 hours of playing time and I'm stil rusty. I'm also playing with a new joystick (Hotas Cougar :-)).
The Dogfight was one where we started to camp the enemy station to prepare for bombing and the Comm was part of it.
Being in the middle of the dogfight I didn't read the chat where he asked me 3 times to pick him up.
He booted me right after I was podded.
The Bomber, well it was a mistake, the comm didn't even give me the time to turn back.
I agree that you boot people repeatetly not listening or making the mistake time after time, but the above is bull@#(!.
And yes, I have a different nick now. And no, I don't give the names of the comms, it doesn't help at all.
To the ones that welcome me back. I really forgot my nickname I had in Beta. Probably : Phalanx or Hellfire

I was a member of the Fatal Shadows, yes. So I guess you're right, it will be Phalanx.
That helped.

Fever wrote:QUOTE (Fever @ Sep 28 2009, 09:38 PM) fair boot to DMing uselessly while the comm pods?
situation dependant, if the guy is going to win, but would lose if he went direct for the pod then he should win, then pu the pod (result is no pods - best result, though the other option is comm in base, newbie podded which isn't so bad)
if he is going to lose then he should go for the pod pu as that gets the comm home and newbie podded, continuing the fight would result in both podded - helps no one
booting newbie during the fight is pointless as that ensures that the comm doesn't get the pu - where in the above there is only one option out of 4 in which the comm doesn't get the pu
Now, if we bring the shenanigans of society in and include who the comm is to apply weights in the decison tree...
In general the best option is to be awesome so you always win the fight, or know when you can't (you can get the pod and rip out)

Don't you worry Phalhell we still think your a newb

What was being pointed out was you actually are your rank. There is an artifical inflation of ranks for new guys to a five when they the Mu value drops below a certain value that was what the comment was all about from Nuke. He is not in any way, shape, or form considering you anything more then what you are: a new guy with a bit of a clue. Giving someone with the rank of seven a bomber is dicey and some commanders hover over the boot button to see if you slip up. It's unfortunate imho since it has a chilling effect on the newer guys but then again the stories I can tell you about new guys who drag their team from hither to yon in a bomber and help screw the pooch *sigh*

Yes, yes we can. Commanders are not there to be carebears and babysitters, they're there to lead your team to victory or failure, we play to play not to go on and deal with each others real life issues.

Both are valid reason for a boot.
Take it and get back in game.
Boots for any other reason are silly and don't feel nice.
The thing to do is join the other team and make life hell (unless you giga scout vs rix heavy ints, heheh

)

Boot button isn't used ENOUGH... STFU and play. If you don't like it leave.

Thats what it taught me after a while. Right, Spidey?
