AllegSkill Leaderboard Q&A
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Remember, what I say is IMO always. If I say that something sucks, it actually means "I think it sucks" OK?

Edmond wrote:QUOTE (Edmond @ Dec 29 2008, 09:24 PM) I have more total games listed on AS than in HELO and I have been playing for less than a year, so I think there's more to it than just the years of data collected.
Also, could you have it not count people who have played for very few hours/games in the average player ranking? It seems really odd that the average player ranking is 1ish.
Also, you define a Mu of 25 as being perfectly average. Can I suppose that being below 25 means a person is a detriment to the team and above 25 is a benefit to the team?
I was really hoping someone would address this question. Any elaboration? The question of the average Mu has me curious.

I can not help but laugh at a few of the rankings on this leaderboard.
I know it exists to predict who will win a game, rather than to predict how good you are, but still.
Harhar.
Still a VAST improvement on every level.

I don't want that time to be a @#(!-storm of hate and schadenfreude.
One of my tasks for the coming months is to have a look at how/what the Alleg server does to collect stats with a view to enabling such things._SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jan 1 2009, 11:49 PM) Any chance of mutiny and boot stats? Just for fun of it of course, not that really important![]()

The problem with 'average rank' was spotted the moment we started processing the database. Currently it's using the mean of the rank column, whereas the median would be a far more sensible choice. TE is aware of the issue and plans to fix it.

Very roughly speaking, yes. The average mu for the entire community is actually closer to 24 than 25. MS defines mu as 'the average performance across all games played'. If you consistently perform well, you will have >25 mu etc.

See that disclaimer that says this whole thing is still a work in progress? That's why there are all of these little issues/problems with it.

Quick question/problem:
The computer I use to play allegiance is shared with my brother. He was the first to discover allegiance and the first to register an account name. He quickly gave up on the game, but I am still playing under the account I created second. This seems to have confused both leaderboards, as they only display my brother's original account(which I now use as my hider nick). Is there any way to fix this so that my account is the one displayed on the boards? It is a minor inconvenience, but it would be nice to see my account name up there.
Also, let me know if I should post this somewhere else.
Thanks
Ding

The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
Good work, if only because my rank seems realistic to me
There's obviously been a lot of work put into this, so thanks to all the time and effort from baker, TE and anyone else who has been working on it.
Now, to get my stack rating negative...
