In college right now and with the intense work load, I don't think I can make the commitment to be on at a certain time every week. Otherwise, the Cadet system sounds great!
Oh, and thanks for the advice. I knew to push them back a ways a bit. Did I read it correctly when it said that Probe1 has a scan range of 500m?
Nice! Your on the right track. Remember ShenBear a fair number of these people have been playing the game and flying against each other for almost a decade and therefore can get a bit cranky and impatient at times [ your new dude number at least 100,000 for some of these gents ] but honestly reread the responses again and you find most of them pretty nice to the new guys.
BTW Cadet is self taught and has it's own moderated forum ( IIRC ) and almost certainly a requirement for all of the squads. Get off the rookie server and play with the big boys, only way to learn. I strongly recommend you take the cadet classes once you get hooked by the game.
Im off for the night but best of luck

PS Remember to apply to the team with the higher combined rank /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yeah... cadet is forum-based, so fixed times are not part of the curriculum. Fixed times wouldn't work since we have folks all around the world in different time zones.
Yes, Probe1 has a scan range of 500. But the signature of the ship you're hoping to spot determines the other part of the equation. More Super Secret Stuff™ can be found in Cadet I, Cadet II and ACS. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
BTW, taking (and finishing/graduating) Cadet signals to the rest of the community that you're serious about learning the game so they'll take you more seriously. (And you can make some pretty good friends going through the program.)

Lyk and Gui are correct considering that all the new players only play 1 hour, then they leave..

Hmmm, followed the links to sign up for Cadet I. Just as a curious question, is it the same information that is on the website through all three weeks of course material? I admit to reading all of it prior to signing up to the game or the forums, so I probably cannot say that my retention or understanding was 100%... probably much less all things considered.

Yes, most of the material for CDT-I is on the Academy.

It's supplemented with forum information/clarification and put in context with everything else. The more active you are on the forum, the better off you'll be.

You're also given assignments for the week, (fly a stealth fighter, attack miners, dogfight, scout and probe, etc) which is really helpful for getting you out of your comfort zone. A major part of being a valuable component of your team is doing what is needed, which may not always be what you WANT to do. The best advice anyone gave me was "Before you do anything, ask yourself 'will this help my team win?'; if not, do something that will."

Hmmm, the dogfighting will probably be out of my comfort zone until flight in this game becomes second nature to me. Until then, I've been trying to stick with probing, nanning, and the occasional miner killer role.

I'm puzzled, Guitarrism and IB are both right imho AND in the same thread, and the funny thing is I back both opinions wholeheartedly ...
Hmmm the world is changing, seems for once that for good ...
That's nice.
