Madpeople, if Craig wants to cut off modem users, to make current connectivity issues worse, to create a couple dozen nasty bugs in the process, to possibly force people that want to get onto their servers to get a custom client, well, he'll surely remove the 33kbps hack.

Craig, the biggest problem with the beta lobby is lack of any kind of authentication. This means that multiple instances are allowed, players can log in under any name (once I saw a game with only 12 augz on one side... then the commander booted augz... Great moments /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />) so you really want, if you can, to get on the main lobby to acquire some meaningful data.

I would love to be on the main lobby, but only reviewed code can be run in the lobby. Reviewing generally takes weeks or months. We can't really wait that long, especially since there will be several iterations as we figure out what is actually important and what isn't.

Instead of making that assumption, how about you ask the person in charge of the area, write the code and submit it. Worst case scenario is you run it on the beta server. Best is we throw it up on the main server. Got it?

Sure, but there's iteration to be done. I don't know what the best data to collect is yet. So I submit the code every few days?

I wanted to avoid putting that kind of load on the reviewers for both our sakes. Who would be doing the code review/approval? Maybe I should talk directly to them about what would be best.

I believe that would be Dogbones. He's the lead Dev, and oversees most of that stuff. Otherwise it's Pook or Tigereye (admins who handle a lot of the "tech" stuff). Just to be safe you could CC all three, unless one of them pops up in the next 3 minutes and says otherwise. They have a weird habit of doing that sometimes. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

I don't know if you noticed, but Dogbones posted earlier in this thread, and said he doesn't think the review they're thinking of would be a "full-blown" review. (whatever that means exactly)

Again, no one is trying to discourage you, but we all know this will go much better if it's possible to go on the main lobby.

I agree, but time is of the essence for a start-up.

I'll contact the three once I've done some more work in the code.

I just got a PM from this guy.

I have no idea who you are. This is the first time I have heard about this.

I would suggest using the system we have in place. Nobody will trust you.

Sorry, I just assumed that the community events lead was the person to talk to.

I was told to talk to "ozzy", but "ozzy" hasn't been online for a year, as far as his dossier says. So I just looked at who leads community events.

Who should I talk to for advice?
