It's a lot more active than right after MS dropped support (iirc, 10v10 was lucky, these days there's usually at least a 10v10 going on) but nothing compared to its heyday. We have ten squads at the moment, and nine of them are participating in a league. These games are a lot of fun, very competitive, and are usually somewhere between 15 a side and 25 a side.
As for how much it's changed... it's changed a ton. Multiple times, too. Basic mechanics are still pretty much the same, though... figs still shoot gats, miners still mine He3, you still need Uranium asteroids for expansion. Hop on and find out!

happened across the gamespot review of this game and remembered how awesome it was. want to play again.
I was just a voob for a few months back then, but I think Allegiance is better than ever. The only thing I miss is the numbers. 10 "main" games going on at once. Yeah!

Welcome,be patient about winning in dogfights, that will take awhile.Try to listen to what the commander says, although the chat text scrolls up fast(use page up to review it).And don't worry if you get booted for some reason,it isn't personal.I'm old like Mr. C,so I occasionally get booted, but it's better than pooping myself.

Ah, I did play this back when it was still just IC, Bios, and Giga. Never got online though, just played the final training mission over and over and read the tech tree foldout thingy and dreamed of an internet connection and the ability to play...
I also don't need to have been around back then to know that there have been many changes. Just read the History sections on the alleg wiki, and listen to some of the old timers talk, and you'll learn a buncha interesting things.
Edit: yeah the reason I know about how it was in the olden days is because I like listening to these stories of how it was lucky to get a 10v10 in prime time, etc. So when I say "iirc" I'm not trying to recall the events, I'm trying to recall what was *told* to me about those events.

That is an awesome bit of phoenix trivia.

You qualify as a very peculiar kind of returning vet... "I've been playing for ten years! ...The final training mission..."

Anyway, I kid. ^_^ Must have been a happy day when you finally could play online.
