From a legal perspective, I believe someone who takes up arms against the US has renounced their citizenship and is no longer a citizen. Also, typically, the word "assassination" is not applied to a situation where one soldier kills a soldier in the opposing force's military. But you know, I suppose its all a matter of perspective.

Well, no... but my taxes did pay for them, and my family members serve in the US military...

Yes, that should be easy, we'll just go to every country where these guys operate, round them all up, and put them into jail. I'm sure that will work quite well, just like it did in every other war in history.

Legally, I don't think your personal beliefs count as legal arguments (unless you're a chief justice or something I guess). :P Nope, right or wrong, he was still a US citizen. Apparently some dude in your Congress proposed taking his citizenship away, but since he's constantly referred to as being a US citizen, I don't think that actually happened. He certainly never lost it automatically, and I imagine the guv'mint wouldn't have wasted time on that memo thingy if he had. Thank you for admitting that my arguments are pretty good, though!

Wait, wait, you think Al-Quaeda terrorists are soldiers? In a military? Who therefore are not mere "enemy combatants" or whatever, and are afforded all the legal protection that soldiers in foreign militaries should receive, like the Geneva convention and what-not? Son, what are you, some sort of commie?
TakingArms wrote:QUOTE (TakingArms @ Oct 1 2011, 09:42 AM) Well, my taxes did pay for them, and my family members serve in the US military... you?
That is hilarious. :D Since I pay taxes to the Canadian Government, you're welcome for my personally backing up your military in Afghanistan! Also I invented the Automatic Postal Sorter, and Basketball! And I think I was technically a Soviet citizen at one point early in my life, so I also invented manned space travel and the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I'm pretty sure I had family members fighting in World War II, so you're welcome for defeating Hitler!

But I'm playing FreeAllegiance Forums! This game requires much less skill or thought, and is almost as addictive.

I salute you on being consistent with viewing these people as soldiers in a foreign military, but legally, the US government doesn't accept that that's the case. Again, you can personally believe that he should have lost his US citizenship, but he did not actually lose it. As before, I just think it should be worrisome that your government is bending its own rules in order to kill people, no matter how much some people may deserve a good killin'!

Still hilarious, though. :P

TakingArms is a lawyer? :o But... he's saying things that don't actually make sense as legal arguments! No lawyer has ever done that!
