Frivolous point of fact: Allegiance was not developed my Microsoft, but by Microsoft Research.

Seems like CNet installer is against Microsoft Research Shared Source license...

Bundling the installer with Babylon toolbar is against the license:

QUOTE 3. That if you distribute the Software or any derivative works of the Software, you will distribute them under a verbatim copy of this License, and you will not grant rights to the Software or derivative works that are broader than those provided by this License. For example, you may not distribute modifications of the Software under terms that would permit commercial use, or under terms that purport to require the Software or such derivative works to be sublicensed to others.[/quote]

Whoever put it on CNet, he should remove it or make sure that CNet removes their commercial installer.

I'll contact them right away and have them list it as "Direct download" only. I do believe most of our newbs have been coming from Cnet, though.

/ I posted in this thread http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-57338....com-installer/ if they don't comply in a few days I'll bump it up a notch.

Use "Report a problem" on Free Allegiance download page, they won't respond to comments posted somewhere else... ;)

I just checked and it appears they have honored my request and the D/L is no longer bundled.

Schröpft die Schwachen,
