I dunno looks like <£50 difference from East Coast and West Coast so not a big deal, prefer having the freedom of car (read bum-style mobile home) then waiting for coaches, plus how else would I be able to meet Icky & Co? Icky you live upstate NY, near Albany or Poughkeepsie?Clay_Pigeon wrote:QUOTE (Clay_Pigeon @ Apr 14 2011, 06:23 PM) Fun fact: car rentals in and around the NYC metro area cost more than car rentals anywhere else. Put off renting until you need to drive.

I haz a couch in seattle you can crash on, should you decide to come here. Seattle has a lot of cool stuff to see, and the music scene here is better than anywhere else in the country, IMO.
And as far as car rentals go, you need to be at least 25 or you may be out of luck with almost any car rental place.

I'm near Danbury, CT, which is like a 2 hour train ride from Grand Central.

I have some relatives in seattle so I might mooch off them, though would be happy to meet up and I am indeed looking forward to checking out the music scene in Seattle.germloucks wrote:QUOTE (germloucks @ Apr 14 2011, 09:55 PM) I haz a couch in seattle you can crash on, should you decide to come here. I was thinking of heading to Pittsburgh from Boston so might be going directly through Danbury so I might indeed pop in.Icky wrote:QUOTE (Icky @ Apr 14 2011, 09:55 PM) I moved to Connecticut last summer.

Wow I hope you really like driving! Actually that sounds like an epic road trip, and something i would absolutely love to do. Probably not alone though because that's a $#@! ton of sitting in a car with nobody to entertain you.HSharp wrote:QUOTE (HSharp @ Apr 14 2011, 12:19 PM) Meh I think I might just go for the car found another for like $300 cheaper, for dense urban areas (Manhattan) I might just do park and ride and it gives me a nice place to stash stuff instead of carrying everything around with me.
Will probably do a circuit so Boston -> Detroit -> Chicago -> Seattle (via Minnesota, N Dakota and Montana or Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana) ->(Reno?->) San Fransico -> LA -> (Las Vegas?) -> Dallas -> New Orleans -> Pensacola -> Atlanta -> Charlotte -> DC -> NY -> Boston, or maybe Buffalo->Toronto if possible. Of course with a rental car the route isn't set in stone so I'm happy to do detours if anyone can convince me.
So the route will be for driving around 5 and a half daysGood thing I have like 40 days to do around 7,800-8,000 miles which at 30mpg(US) should be 260-270 gallons(US) which I believe is ~$890(USD)?
I would skip reno, it's really not that impressive. I've never been to Vegas but I think if you're coming to the US Vegas is probably a place you'll want to check out. If you're going in that direction, Denver is a really cool city and you'll get to drive through the rockies which is amazing. Also if you're going through Arizona you might want to stop off at the grand canyon to give that a look-see, if you're into the nature thing.
I'm in boston so if you want to grab a drink, hit me up.

If you go to Vegas, it's easy to do the helicopter ride over the grand canyon that lands smack bang to heyokas peyote ancestral lands!TakingArms wrote:QUOTE (TakingArms @ Apr 15 2011, 08:14 AM) I've never been to Vegas but I think if you're coming to the US Vegas is probably a place you'll want to check out. Was thinking about going via Colorado so might just do that but I thought the Rockies go up from Colorado to Canada or is it especially good from the Colorado tropic?
Was planning on seeing the Grand Canyon as well.
May do that indeed, Charlotte was going to be just a stop-over to DC but would be more then happy to meet up.FIZ wrote:QUOTE (FIZ @ Apr 14 2011, 10:19 PM) Well if your dead set on heading to Charlotte hit me up.
