Hiders
Basically Hiders make up for a software limitation (that is booted players can't stay in the server) that could be fixed by either a united lobby system or a simple "drop to noat" insteadKGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 29 2010, 07:04 AM) Fairly Cogent Post
I am all for removing Hiders and keeping the simple 1 callsign + tokens system. Hiders are dumb and useless and I feel any practical purpose (I wanna be anonymous for a bit) could be served by handing out name changes to the best or worst of players at one of the ZL's discretion.
Complete removal is the best option, but nothing like that can be done until we get some code into the game (something that was being worked on a bit back I think)

I think the booting thing is messed up anyway. Why?
Because the one person who launched to defend the miner but failed gets booted for "stupidity" while the person 3 sectors away looking for space bugs gets to keep playing.
That said, it seems to make everybody feel better about themselves to boot someone, so just carry on the way it is now, they can rejoin on a random hider anyway.

KGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 29 2010, 01:04 PM) But like Pkk pointed out and like I detailed 3 years ago a dev forum post (sorry it's not read-only to everyone...), removal of hiders would come with a code change to the boot/ban system of the game:
Basically commanders would only be able to reject someone back to NOAT and by doing so activating a defection flag for this player and a special one-time auto accept (AA) off mode. This way the rejected player can try to rejoin the same team but AA is enforced off so the comm who rejected him must manually either accept or reject (and this time a reject is final, no more way to rejoin until game over or the comm changes). Or either he can request to join another team (even if the global allow defection setting is off). If a player is rejected twice from all the teams, he is then banned from the server like today. Also @Alleg people can still directly ban someone.
I quite like this idea
That said - for me personally - I quite like hiders. Sometimes I like to get in-game, chat to people I know while I play, have fun that way. Sometimes I just wanna get in game and fly without chatting etc. And like to fly under another call-sign so I can do this without appearing rude.
Then there's the "people asking me questions about training when I just wanna fly effect"............

Getting booted out of the lobby is really stupid and annoying. Should post a ticket for that I suppose...DasSmiter wrote:QUOTE (DasSmiter @ Aug 29 2010, 06:57 PM) Basically Hiders make up for a software limitation (that is booted players can't stay in the server) that could be fixed by either a united lobby system or a simple "drop to noat" instead

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
But do you know what I think of you? Because I'd be happy to tell you.
