+1 to previous praise in this thread.

Quick idea: is it conceivable (ie. not too much work) to create a shorter (ie. 10 mins max) video of a game, which would show just the highlights with post-commentary?

Sgt.Pepper would like to make clear he is not volunteering in any manner for the application of aforesaid proposal and is therefore a wet chicken.

We need the US Football-style highlighter-thing so Sai can go John Madden on our asses.

One video at the top of my list to create is similar to what you describe. I would like to make at least one, preferably a few, videos summarizing the key steps in a game of Allegiance with highlights and commentary. However, my purpose is promotional and to help show potential players what a game of Allegiance is really like from start to finish.

You are more likely thinking of videos of squad games, etc that you just are interested in what happened though...like a recap of the match. If the recorder just records from command view in base it probably wouldn't be a ton of work. Probably not something that someone could do every week, but for big matches every now or then it should definitely be doable. Quite unlikely you'd want it to be anywhere close to 10 minutes though, maybe 5-6. I've done such vids for another online game I play for a couple years now.

I meant for a promotional vid, just like you described. Trudging through 30mins+ of video with some lull in the action might be accurate, but not necessarily fun to watch.

We can fall asleep to it like we used to do with NASCAR races!

I watched the first bit of it, up until about the first base was destroyed. Great test run on this whole thing! If you're looking for promotional video, though, you're missing something in the commentary (at least that I saw)... explanations. You used lots of abbreviations, nans, figs, etc. Also the map... you moved around where you were looking at all the time without explaining what you were looking at. I can't read any of the text so that's useless. The miner kill was a great opportunity to explain the economy and the effect a miner kill has on the team. The bomber run was a great time to explain nans, what they are, and why they have 9 of them.

Maybe later on that all was explained, maybe I just missed it, but I felt like it was targeted towards people who already play and know what's going on.

I think having multiple cameras/screens available would give it a much better feel, especially if we can get inside the cockpit of a ship. It would definitely give it the real feel of the game to the newbie - a single pilot in a much bigger war, trying to make a difference.

I would do it, but my strategic depth is still lacking... questions like 'Why are you doing that?' would be answered with, 'Because my commander told me to'... doesn't make for very good commentary, but it is a realistic picture of being new!

If this feedback is unwelcome, please do not take offense - the first broadcast was great, but the second could be better and more targeted to the audience you want... I am trying to be constructive, not tear you down.

I am planning to watch the rest when I get time, too, and I'll come back and revisit this afterwards.

As far as is this for promoting alleg? No. This for the community only.

AEM is doing awesome promo stuff that I can't touch. That's his area and his is da master!

As for a shorter summary thing, the answer is a definite yes.

Alleg sports already has one episode where that is done. Http://allegiance.fragfest.net

the biggest issue for me is time. If someone sends me a fraps of a squad game, I need to watch it fully through so I can pick out the high points of the game. Then I have to edit the video down (I'm not editing expert,so that takes a few hours ) and dub commentary over the top, encode it and post. WhY I hope
is that if I can comment while watching then at least I'm shrinking some of the time.

Anyway. The point is that I want to do more , it's just hard to find the time.

You mentioned "recorder". I assumed you are using FRAPS. If not, are you using something else? I enjoyed your videos quite a bit and wouldn't mind making a few myself...just to show friends.
