I mean humans don't put hair and well-trimmed fingernails on their ships. "ooh here come those mammilian ships with their boobies - damn them and their breast milk-eating young!!!"
What about rix? they kinda have an organic theme, not scales, but membranes and veins
Those are great textures though, the first one seems like it would make a good fighter, and the second one would be good for an int.

Test: to which part of human physiology would you relate these images?

These models kick serious ass.
PWNED.

You know, I tried to find images of non-phallic space-ships, and I can't. Even the Soyuz looks phallic now! Damn you for poisoning my mind.
Bow chika wow wow!

But since we have aliens in the game (grumbles about the introduction of these new-fangled Rixians in the hard survival Sci-Fi sky of Allegiance), I think going with the Rix style and having their ships be distinctibely alien is a good way to go. And Dreg are not hard Sci-Fi, they are the classic lizardy foe of space opera.
@Adept - Why does the presence of an alien race (Dreg or Rix) go against hard sci-fi? The only issue I see in terms of hard Sci-Fi is the distance factor, and that is nicely smoke and mirrored by Alephs in place of FTL tracel.? Just curious, since we've been trying to write Alleg background as "real" hard Sci-Fi while at the same time being forced to work within the constraints of the original MS "concept" which = "Canon material" for want of any other...
Anyway - nice work Quiz. I do have to ask in the same vein of Fishbone about the textures/design though. While I have no issue with the look and feel of the ship, my question would be "what do the spines do?". Obviously we can write off the scales as a design in the same vein of ablative armor/thermal tiling seen on the Shuttle. I guess I just have a need from a story/worldbuildling PoV that each part of a ship actually does something/has a purpose. With the Rix ships you can let it slide a little as they have ships that are essentially "grown". I'd love to see you put some technical notes against the models

They could be ship components (antennae/heat radiators/technobabblon particle emitters) painted and decorated to look like spines, etc., as a purely aesthetic design choice.
These guys aren't humans, so just because we wouldn't decorate our ships to look like skin and nails doesn't mean they wouldn't.
Also, they've been through some unpleasant interaction with other alien species, if I remember the Dregh back-story right. It might be a matter of pride -- maybe they really *do* want us to think "oh here come those ferocious cold-blooded lizardy aliens! Curse them and their egg-hatched young!" when we see their ship, as a matter of pride for them as a species. Based on their backstory, they probably rely on physical strength more than humans do, and perhaps still think of themselves a bit as wild hunters -- so perhaps for them it makes more sense to decorate their ships to look like natural predators, or like symbols of their own bodies' physical power.
Besides, humans
have decorated vessels in all sorts of weird ways throughout history. Figureheads on sailing ships? (Ships with boobs indeed... >_<) Viking ships with bows carved to look like dragons? Ancient Greek ships with
eyes?
Also, there is really no way in heck Allegiance can be hard science fiction. Faster-than-light travel, super-dense asteroid fields... Really, best to just accept that the game is set in a good old-fashioned Space Opera, and make it a good one.

(Doesn't mean you can't try to justify everything with technobabble, though...

)

they look awesome
the engine texture is a bit simple compared to the rest though, both on the first one and the second one.

I think the finished engine texture is good enough.

As was expected the semester and exams put our moddeling efforts a bit on the hold. Also I have problems converting the ships to alleg. But we are still on it.
The newest model is not really finished, but I wanted to have some feedback becasue we are currently not sure about it. It is supposed to look a little less aggressive then the interceptor and more fittet to the all-round type the fighter is. Not really sure we got it right though. Its also a little less heavy on the polys.
Just a honest "like" or "dislike" would be great.
Edit: we call it "the lobster"^^
Edit2: about the spines: they are actually there because the originals have them.
