Problem solved. You can't just copy and rename the *hullinfobmp.mdl, you have to make it with the old bmp and the new name using mdlc. In retrospect, I could have just used a text mdl pointing to the bmp.

This is the stand-alone (i.e. no artwork) version of my present core. There may be bugs, and the artwork will not be finished unless I can get some help figuring out why mdlc is giving me hybrid MDLs.

shivan_sac01.igc

EDIT: fixed link

Notes:
The ships' speed and acceleration are largely set in stone, but things like booster fuel, the entire economy, etc. are not.
Research is set to 0.1 for testing purposes. I intend the final version to be somewhere between 2 and 0.5, haven't decided exactly. I just don't want it to be too long, because Bios/TF are less played, I think for that reason.
The lack of prox is sure to be controversial, I'm still not real sure about it.
You may have read previously that the ships would have Phoenix hulls. This is no longer true, but the hull/shield disparity is now more extreme.

Known bugs:
Stealth Attack Craft does not have appropriate prereqs.
Figbees have incorrect speed/agility/mass.

I have invented a way to make Shivan stealth fighters slightly less sucky: stealth boosters! Stealth booster 1 has the same fuel efficiency and thrust as booster 1, but has less sig than booster 2. Stealth booster 2 (adv tac) is slightly stealthier than lt booster. Stealth boosters can only be used by stealth fighters and stealth attack craft. A shivan SF with stealth booster 1 and sig cloak 2 tops out at 110 m/s and 48% sig. That's not fast, but keep in mind that with the Shivans' extreme acceleration, it can reach 100 mps practically instantaneously. The primary question is how much fuel the SF should have.

Shivan Tac Pack
Basilisk and Taurvi

Shivan Tac Pack.zip

They're the weird hybrid MDLs, but they work perfectly. The only downside to them is that you can't replace their textures.

EDIT: fixed link, corrected scales.

Shivan Exp Pack
Dragon and Azrael

Shivan Exp Pack.zip

Next pack is 4 ships, so it may be a few weeks. It only takes an hour or so to convert and test a ship, but I'm not rushing.

EDIT: Fixed link, corrected scales.

Are you referring to the gunmounts/cockpit? Yeah, those are a little odd. I mean, I guess the gunmounts are in a fairly normal spot, it's just the cockpit that's way over to the side. I wonder if they did that just so it would feel weird to fly in Playing Judas.

they a little funky, but mostly i just think its ugly, great job still. you got any bases besides the retextured IC ones?

Ugly? Heh, I like it. Anyway, the only bases I have are the retextured IC outpost, which I'm not really happy with, and the Shivan Comm Node, which I will use for the teleport, and maybe alter for the refinery. Of course, it loses the rotation, but I think it'll still look fine. There are a few fan-made Shivan bases I could convert, but mostly I think they suck. I've made some attempts at making my own bases, but I suck at it. I can't even figure out how to kitbash the capships, much less make something original. Besides, if I could design good-looking bases, I'd be giving the Dreg something original instead of working on this mostly-pointless project.

As to progress on Sup pack, I'm half done.

So I finally played Silent Threat Reborn, and now I have a really stupid idea. If you can't guess what I'm talking about, check out these videos:

Shivan pods could have a custom model in the shape of a Shivan, which is equipped with a single-shot, slow-to-fire gun that does say 450 damage (Striker DC) but has a range of like 10 meters. Basically, you could single-shot a scout, or finish off a damaged fig or int, but only if they're stupid enough to let you ram them. The big problem is that even with Striker DC that's still maybe an eighth of a miner's hull...

Like I said, it was a stupid idea.
