top (I prefer htop) gives a real-time display of running processes.

htop's cool.
How do you register a dll with wine? I got my hands on the DX9 version, but Alleg fails to start because Wine can't find the d3dx9_30.dll (I did put it in the Alleg directory).

winecfg (in the wine menu in ubuntu, if you cant find it, use the terminal)
under the libraries tab type in the name of the dll, then add it.
EDIT: its called configure wine under the menus, winecfg in terminal.
put the dll in the windows/system32 folder
