My theory on the link between newbies and Pheonix:

With an extensive research program, i have concluded that the primary reasoning between the Nix/Newbie connection is primarily due to the fact Nix has less of a feel to the learning curve. When given the options of learning how to do things like nanning, newer players are often frightened by this strange and odd concept (What? shoot my OWN team? Even when i'm not trying to be an @#$%@#?).

Further studies also showed that newbie <3 missiles, and nix gets extra missiles, thus making their QF1 spamming all the more pretty.

edit: Oh, and you forgot hyperjump for your vans. I go quicker, and my sig drops? Where do I sign?
It's not turret, it's turrent, noob! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

You also forget that Nix has hvy int, hvy scout, adv sf, and adv fig drones. And Nova bombs.

I've never seen it, but more than one newbie has asked how they can get "reinforcements" or "extra ships" or some-such.

QUOTE But dont worry, we got a better HE-3 yeild modifier then Gigacorp to take care of that![/quote]

Giga doesn't have a Yield Modifier (in DN), they have a Capacity perk.

I think it's also the welcome screen, that's got something to do with it.

I mean, you pick Giga, and a little image of their logo pops up behind your team's colour. Meh, that's okay. Who else we got? Oooh, "Phoenix", sounds neat.

Now, you've picked 'nix and the background is filled with loads of cool arse text about shields, and perks, and lazorz!!1 and bombers and He3 capacities and EVERYTHING!!1!1one!

How can anyone turn down a faction that seems to bleed out of the game and onto the faction select screen?

Also... The long list above.

Plus (finally), note that a lot of newbies like to either:

1) Do those weird DM's that involve investing in every tech in the universe, before the fighting actually begins. And as we know, slim profile + pew pewz ftw...

-or-

2) Play 4 team games with about 2-3 people per team. Which gives 'nix times ample opportunity (especially on out9) to buy every tech in the universe, and even invest randomly in the drones, to act as tower layers, instead of actual tower layers...

And there you have an army of reasons.

ps. Forum join date lies!

this is interesting, i recently decided i'd play mostly phoenix for know, i guess because it seems simple and there's more stuff written about it in f1; also its (a lot of times no always) nearly impossible to get nans on your bbr, i do know how to nan, but it's realy disorganized so good shields is nice; w/ so many factions and cores it's hard to learn all this so it feels faster to just pick 1 faction and stick with it until you get better i have a feeling that's a BAD idea......

Your feeling is correct. Give it a cookie and then do what it says. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

An Ode to Nix

I remember once
On some small late night game
A bomber duel
with not turrets at all.
After successfully landing my AB
A dreg one into his med3
I scoffed at the shields
who refused to deplete.
Oh nix with your shields
and your quickened up turn
leave me a laser blossom
to drop in your van
where it can stink up
and cause vets displease
reminiscent of some smelly ol' cheese

edit: bolded title.
