Yes, all the options I'm currently entertaining attempt to enforce numbers balance and skill balance. Unfortunately this makes my job that little bit more complex, hence 'still in testing'. The pre-lauch auto balance was finished long ago, and works so well I want to have it's babies. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Some examples of pre-game AB from the testing GUI:

http://www.fe23.co.uk/alleg/AS/ABSmallGame1.PNG

Note in the second image that the lower-ranked team gets the extra player.

N.B. The Mu/Sigma displayed for players aren't necessarily indicative of their true skill/rank. The AB testing system simply reads the values from the DB regardless of any experiments I might be running on the rest of the data.

Edit2: The players listed first in the teams were the RL commanders for that game. The rest of the listing assumes that the GC commander hit 'autobalance'. Players are listed according to their best match according the the 1 vs 1 match quality formula detailed on MS's Trueskill website. In the huge game Gap <-> Mustach etc.

Edit3: Oh wow. I just spotted that I played that game. What are the chances... 'gu /me keeps a lookout for No_Nose_Pete

Not that it's the final word on skills, but for that game NNP was the player that was my best match (i.e. closest to equal) out of all players that played the game. Mostly the edit was a 'gu 'cos I didn't initially notice I was party to the proceedings of that particular game.

Edit: To make things clear: I'm not trying to plug me.

Ah, but NNP and you play completely different playstyles.

Value worth, maybe /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

cast my vote as "I don't know" since, well, I haven't seen it in action yet.

I agree in principle, but Baker did say 'on the assumption that it works'. I think he was looking for a more philosophical discussion.

Perhaps it would be added to server side parameters so that people starting games/servers can choose it or not.

It's quite simple : stats should count for AB games and stats don't count when you turn it off (if you want such a switch), this would also prevent unbalanced squad games or *vs.World costing you rank-points. Problem: high ranking players have lots to win by keeping stats off /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I like it! Simple and elegant.

Yes. In and ideal world that is precisely how it should be. I'm of the staunch opinion that AB should be optional, yet I worry that we might not ever get enough games for accurate ranks due to the community's tendency to arrange stacked (i.e. non-ABed in this context) games. Despite this I'm pleasantly surprised by the results of the poll so far. The majority say 'Yes' to mandatory AB, and this is contrary to my, and the rest of the stats group's expectations.

If anything, this poll will result in my taking twice as long to doubly-verify the efficacy of post-launch AB. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I am also surprised.

I can't imagine myself playing very much in a situation where AB was mandatory- not out of some ethical tantrum, but because I can't see the game being very fun if AB is mandatory.
