I originally came on here to post My idea for tech treez.. BUT Az I am reading I would like to adress the statementz made so far.. ANd my tech tree Ideaz will also explain more. First WHy no exitting and entering Vehiclez.. THIS iz A MUST option.. AZ if Someone ditched their Sweet IC hvy MECH and U find it.. U hop in and kan take it to IC in their own Mech...THIS is SUCH A MUST.. ADDZ huge Ammountz of flavor to the game.. To explain and talk about the GUY who hopz out and snipez..aka NOT helping the team.. I will have to go into SOme of the rest of MY ideaz.... First P.O.D's.."Planet-side Operatives in Distress..Yes I thought of a kewl acronym for it that workz...
First OFF U have to get the IDEA THAT podz do NOT DIE Unless Killed.. PODZ are simply YOUR character without a vehicle or a suit.. ALL Infantry will have a suit that providez armor.. AKA U have 3 setz of "life" to worry about.... Your "Health" (( which iz your POD basically)) ITZ your trooper with NO infantry suit on and in no vehicle..Takez perhaps 3 to 4 bulletz to kill a P.O.D.. ANd PODz only have a limited weapon array..AKA a Machine gun ((weakest in the game)), A hand gun.. and perhapz a limited suplly of gernadez..There for makin PODz not useless but NOT very effective...
Az Your second "health" iz the "Armor" class... ALL Battle SUITZ((aka INFANTRY)) MECHZ Vehicles and Stationz have a certian ammount of armor (( note only Your POD will have health not vehiclez and mechz and stationz)) Example here for troopz.. YOU choose the "Scout" Infantry Combat Suit- AKA U have great Speed and mobility..A LARGE RADAR rng..A Machine Gun (( probably the same one U have when a pod)) a hand gun and limited grenadez.. Along with the ablility to lay MINE traps or whatever the equivilent iz in the game.. U would have 2 Helath meterz .. (( and this iz a rough draft of it )) AKA Life/100%-Armor/100%[310] this would mean.. U have 310 Lt Armor POINTZ and 100% health.... NOW In game U take fire from enemy unitz.. YOUR ARMOR.. NOT your health would go down (( and without NANNAGE would not go back up just like in allegiance)).. WHEN YOUR armor reachez 0 YOur SUIT popz and YOU are now A P.O.D.. AKA about 2 shotz and YUR DUST.. YOU also would lose Mobility, LOSE your RADAR COMPLETELY....(( NOW this totally doesnt take into account Shieldz..BUT for this example say we r USING a BELTER trooper))
Your Third "health" meter would be shieldz... Just like in allegiance when NOT being shot they will slowly regenerate.. so it would be Life/100%-Armor/100%[200]-Sheilds/100%[150] on a normal SCOUT INFANTRY COMBAT SUIT ((or Sicz az Im kallin em heh)) When Your shieldz are taken down completely U start to lose ARMOR pointz Unless U get out of the line of fire.. then U kan build back UP your SHIELD pointz.. BUT YOUR ARMOR will not go back UP unless U get NANNAGE.
With this System PODz wouldnt be totally useless JUST very very hard to do anything with.. UNLESS U allow Vehicle swapping which would ROXXOR..az.. U get blown out of your Tank.. U put up a nice fight IN your INfantry SUIT but it too getz POPPED.. NOW YUR a pod.. BUT U notice a HALF alive SCOUT bike of theirs layin down... U kombat roll over to it HOP on and peel dust away form them leading the foolz back to an ambush. >;b Makez Being podded SUCK a hole lot less.. and ADDZ a HUGE ammount of FLAVOR to the game... And there iz a way to keep PODz from bein to much.. U simply MAKE it Impossible for them to do any "capturing" They are completely Useless ON "haxxing" into enemy basez etc.. Just able to fight a little and snag vehiclez with no pilotz in them.. ...
The entire POD system would only work on the Prinicple THAT BEFORE U EVER LEFT base.. U would HAVE to choose a COMBAT SUIT.. BUT I have already worked this threw my Brain azwell....(( Alleg fuxxin Up on me givin me alot of time for this.. BTW Ill post The dreg SCOUT bike.. TANK and A few gun concepts soon)) All Factionz WILL STart with 2 available COMBAT Suitz.. Your SIC heh and TIC heh.. Scout Infantry COMbat SUIT..OR your Trooper Infantry Combat SUIT.. (( trooper would be less radar rng Less mobility BUT Higher armor HIgher Shieldz and Perhapz a more deadly gun..(( the 3rd and more powerful gun could be faction specific.. AKA a NICE lazer for TF .. meyhapz a grenade launcher for IC etc etc..)) This way U would alwayz leave base IN SOME combat SUIT.. And eventually be scrapped down to your P.O.D. and have to return for another suit (( When U enter a home base U automatically get refreshed IN your LAST COmbat SUIT)) While Thikin ALL this UP I also kame UP with a IDEA to PUT RIPCORDING in the game.. heh..
A Teleport PLATFORM.. U have to send a constructor to make one.. BUT IT actually BUILDZ a platform anywhere on the map.. THEN when U are in base or on a PLATFORM of your teamz.. IT bringz UP a mini map with all the Other tele platformz U have made and U kan instantly transport to one of them.. This would help gettin to the Battle FRONT easier and add tele'z to the game.. IT also ADDZ for the idea OF TP2.. AKA a SCOUT kan PLANT a Teleport PROBE AND if YOu have YOur team waitin at a home base or a teleport platform.. WHEN the TP iz ACtive U kan all Teleport there just like in alleg.. ANd just like IN aleg IT will have a time limit nefore it activatez adn a lilfetime before it disappearz....

I also had a ephinany last night.. I think that the TANK should not go in EXP az the INt like mechz are already slow and powefull.. Perhapz a FAST speeder like craft that kan "intercept " and spot @#(! while the hvy mechz are for the powerfull take ove rheh...

sorry for reviving this old thread, but i was just reading back and thought an important point was missing, there must be an effective way for ground units to attack air units (or the air units would have to be really weak to compensate, and that wouldn't be fun)
if anyone here has played UT2004 you'll know the AVRiL (Anti-Vehicular Rocket Launcher), which is how they dealt with the same problem. The raptor is a very fast and quite powerful hover-heli like vehicle, but with weak armor. If the avril didn't exist it would dominate the field.

The avril is just a rocket launcher, but the rockets are slow (just a little bit faster than a raptor) and very powerful, 2 can take out a raptor, the rockets have extremely good agility (you cannot out-maneuver one!) but they have no on-board homing system, so the gun must perform the job for them and relay the data, this means that you must keep locked on to the vehicle your shooting at until the rocket hits. the avril has a long reload time, meaning that there is rarely more than one rocket in the air at once. the raptor pilot will be warned of a lock on.
The avril is infantry only and is quite common, the overall effect is that raptors can fly about without fear of sudden destruction, and they are an effective support vehicle because if the enemy is busy fighting other ground troops they cant stop to guide the rocket. but they cannot fight on their own (except with a noob in a tank, who cant shoot them but is scared to come out) also, if the pilot is skilled, they can kill whoever fired the avril or get out of line of sight with the avril, cutting off the homing system. they can bail as well because there is generally enough warning.
avril can lock onto any vehicle but ground vehicles are strong and slow enough that other weapons are preferable.

basically, if we make something similar, then we can make more powerful air vehicles without unbalancing the game. (and give infantry a use)
it should be possible to lock vehicles, but you cant do it in the heat of combat (takes focus and time, which you don't have when fighting), enemies cant enter them, but friendlies can. useful if you need to leave your scout. you cant lock a stolen vehicle. this would let people do the good old, "run him over with his own tank" but would stop too much tech stealling.
intresting game mechanic would be that if you steal an enemy vehicle they can then track you until you leave it.
