I think another "solution" would be to get large scale events like Allegiance Wars or the Zone Games running again.
I remember the Alleg Wars 4 and it was awesome. Everyone was in TS and everyone was playing with teamwork.

That would be up to our Events Zone Lead. But you are missing the point. This is about Pickup Games.

I like this idea, and there are a lot of responses, not all of which I have had a chance to read.

Our community is growing enough where something like this is more feasible. I see, when I log on, more than 1 server in use at a time. Sometimes 3-4 are going with various sized games. This is awesome to see!! It also means we have enough of a player base, so if 1 or 2 nights a week, some squaded vets feel like going to a Squad Members only club....so be it.

The thing that comes to mind for me, the most important aspect, is to keep it simple.

Provide the server, squadies only, and see who shows up that night. AVL was a rgeat concept, maybe the timing was off with Core Wars and all that crap. Keeping it a bit looser and just providing a server and letting the teams hash out the rest is great. I think it will work.

Vets can still play on the mixed server if they want. The newbies will have their server as well.

I am against though setting it to Advanced players only. It would limit those players who have strong potential to be good players. We want to encourage them to play with the better players. Maybe setting it so anything but Novice? That might work better, if possible.

anyways....I hope this comes to fruition. It is a good idea.

You don't need to be in a squad to be a part of the community, and player who joined two days ago is going to tell me this.
factoid wrote:QUOTE (factoid @ Jul 27 2007, 05:57 AM) Alternatively, you can join a squad, and still get to play squad like games even if you can't always make the Sunday games (like me!).
I don't want to join a squad. I was in one because I liked the people there. Now I can't play sundays so I haven;t joined any, nor do i want to fly with te tag of any squad currently.
Mr. Kltplzyxm wrote:QUOTE (Mr. Kltplzyxm @ Jul 27 2007, 11:42 AM) Don't forget, you can't use hiders on the Squad Server. It's inevitable that squaded players will want to whore from time to time, in which case they need to go to the open servers.
So main server becomes the place where people go when they don't want to actually try and win?
PsycHosis wrote:QUOTE (PsycHosis @ Jul 27 2007, 04:11 PM) noobs play anyways, and honestly, sorry mercs, join a squad, form a squad, we need more incentive to get people into the squad play. Hell, I've tried this before, join a game and just take all the squaddies and CDTs to another server for a match.
Force us to join squads for this crap?

If this happens we'll simply form a squad that has no function other than to give you a tag so you can join whatever server you want. Any newb from day one will be allowed on (some of them are better then squaded players (check one of the people I quoted). This is just an annoyance and the only reason it has such support is because most people are squaded.
Realize that some people have reasons not to be in squads and don't $#@! them over.

I would ask that the server is up 7/24. NO advanced only settings. Just the requisite of having a @TAG on in order to play on it.

This has my vote.

I don't believe the main server will be affected that much at all. More than likely, the @TAG server will spend the majority of the time either empty, or being used as a Squad live chat forum. Games will still be played on main server. When enough players are available, then an @TAG game will be played. This is not about forcing anyone into a squad, but about allowing everyone to play in the type of game they want. Mercs are mostly by choice. If they wanted squad type play, then they would join one. For those who say they don't join because they can't play Sundays... well this takes that excuse away. All you can really do is run it up the flag pole and see who salutes.

I, as an unsquadded veteran from beta, obviously do NOT support this in its present state. It has the potential to ruin Allegiance completely for anyone who does not plan to join a squad. If there is a squad only server, it will probably be used except during off hours when there aren't enough squadded players on for a game. I'm not saying I'm a merc for life, I may join a squad sometime down the road, but I won't be part of a community where squadded and mercs are segregated.

That said, I understand and certainly agree with the fact that we need to improve pick up game quality. BUT this should NOT be a server that segregates the community between squadded and merc. IF nothing else you NEED to have an @Merc tag or something for those mercs in situations like mine or Nargs. I or another merc could be the "SL" and manage who has access to this tag. More than likely, we'd initially need a private forum with a couple of the more active players from each squad or veteran mercs to respond to join requests. If some vouch that the merc is experienced and dedicated to competitive play, then they are given access to the @Merc tag.

If this server becomes more established there would probably be less play time by squadded and @Mercs on the other servers, making it harder to vouch for those who want the @Merc tag. We would likely need an alternative way to get the tag. More then likely @Cadet graduates would be able to join @Merc straight out of Cadet if they don't want to enter into a squad right away. @Cadet graduates would receive a lengthy ban from @Merc if they their gameplay does not show an interest in working with the team and being competitive. Returning vets would still need to be vouched for.

This is a good idea if their tag only server goes through, and i will help you with it, however I still think the whole thing should be called off.

Could we try it for 30 days and see what happens?

And yes, something would have to be done with the vet mercs eventually.
