its hard to command when everybody screams at you when you lose, even if you try your best.
Except for that IC shipyard thing i really messed up:D But i shall prevail /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
We need more players who try to comm

Commanding wouldn't be so bad if whenever I commanded half my team wasn't always flying around in enemy sectors waiting to get eaten up by heavy ints while there's more important work to do. In games like that, even if you win, you'd be happier if you just didn't play.

We've upped our standards. Up yours.
Yeah I feel the same but I still command. I simply use more the 'boot' button (back then in AZ I almost never used it, except for afk/non donater), it helps a lot for the blood pressure.NakPPI wrote:QUOTE (NakPPI @ Jun 27 2007, 11:18 PM) I simply don't have enough blood pressure medicine to command. Between circle flying newbs, voobs who touch my miners and cons, morons who can't nanite, or defend against an eyed bomber, there really is no motivation to command. I actually commanded a game where my eyed bomber blowed three sectors against IC exp with 4 nans for the win. That shouldn't happen. Ever. Except the thing is stupidity like that happens on a regular $#@!ing basis. Any random game I can find at least 5 players either not helping the team, sitting in base or just flat out doing something stupid.
People don't understand there is ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO and the commander shouldn't have to tell you to probe your mother's behind sector. The commander shouldn't have to bitch and moans for nanites on a bomber or htt. Most of all the commander shouldn't have to BEG for defense against a goddamn eyed bomber. Giga $#@!ing scouts can stop IC bomber rushes if you work together and $#@!ing defend.
Why don't I command more? Because people are $#@!ing stupid. At least back in the AZ when the majority of the team was made up of stat whores, they would do things that were helpful, such as defending miners, escorting cons, etc. But now it seems like most people can't be bothered to do anything for their team (or their stats by consequence), they're too busy trying to gun down that (0) int with their scout while the tech base is being killed by an un-nanned eyed bomber run.
The player base has definitly changed a lot. Players having "situational awareness" are rare. I've seen so many 'vets' acting like complete morons, something it's just too funny that I simply command 'oddly' just to laugh at them (I know it's evil /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )
Commanding pisses me off to no end, of course most of that is just me - i expect too much from my team... and i dont want to subject my team to endless yelling AT them even when they are doing a good job... just aint right..
Late night games are a different story... but you, of course, are talking of prime time.
<looks at noat commander spot>

Ooh damn, it's a miracle : Pigs fly, Hell freezes over, and i finally agree with Nakpuppy. Nak very aptly described what quite a few of the decent to good commanders in Alleg feel nowadays : We can't be bothered to command a team that has a majority of clueless idiots in it. Most of the better vets play this game to win (and not just to fly around with our head up our ass playing Half_Life_in_Space ). The problem is that those peeps who think "hey it just a $#@!ing game, chill out dude and let me fly to the sector boundary and have my fun" : these asswipes annoy the @#(! out of me. Alleg is a team sport, if a comm can't trust 75% of his team to listen to orders and do usefull stuff then he gets high bloodpressure. When a comm gets too $#@!ing annoyed by the idiots on his team (which are not always clueless newbs BTW) that comm decides : "who needs this @#(!" and lets someone else comm the next game and joins the stack so he can at least have some peeps around who know what they are doing. The problems of "no vet comms" and "stacking" are quite related. Vets hate non-team-players, which means they usually flock to the side where they see team players. Team players prefer decent comms --> vets stack vet comms. Hey I can't blame them, I do it myself too. If I have the choice to play a nice game with peeps that listen or a game where my team won't nan, won't d miners, won't d cons, and dogfights while an enemy con plants, i will always choose the former. So sue me /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />NakPPI wrote:QUOTE (NakPPI @ Jun 27 2007, 11:18 PM) I simply don't have enough blood pressure medicine to command. Unless the powers that be come up with a system that effectively splits the real vets between 2 teams and prevents post game start stacks and bans all people below a rank of say int4 from commanding on normal server games, games (esp. during the slow hours) will continue to be uneven and comms will prefer to let someone else deal with the annoying problems which some peeps cause. IMHO current implementations of ELO and HELO and (voluntary)autobalance suck in making games enjoyable and equal. It would probably be best to split the community in half and not allow new players to play on the "normal" servers until a much later time, preferably not until they pass a cadet class or until an @alleg sponsors their "promotion" to the big leagues.
Speaking as a noob, I can tell you how horrid it would be to have to play only with other noobs for any extended period. I would of probably left if I didn't join the non-noob server when I did. I can only imagine how frustrating it is for a comm to have us (or non-team players) on their server. I can, however, tell you how frustrating it is playing with only other noobs. I'm not sure that you can relate to that (maybe you can?) -- but I'd rather gouge out my own eyes with a spork then play lots of games with other noobs.Grim_Reaper_4u wrote:QUOTE (Grim_Reaper_4u @ Jun 28 2007, 01:43 AM) It would probably be best to split the community in half and not allow new players to play on the "normal" servers until a much later time, preferably not until they pass a cadet class or until an @alleg sponsors their "promotion" to the big leagues.

I know the old old old manual was publicly available for a short while, but all of the ACS material we are using now is not publicly available. Once we bang out a couple more sessions and work out the bugs, we might publish some of our pre-session material, but it is unlikely the entirely thing will be available.Cable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 27 2007, 05:24 PM) If you do not read and comprehend the ACS manual- you do not have to be in Allegiance Command school to get access to it. Read it, it really is worth it.
The reason behind this is simple: if the manual was public info, most people wouldn't bother joining ACS. Unfortunately, they would miss out on the one-on-one mentoring that's really the heart of the program. By keeping a little mystique around the program, we can sucker people in.

More people need to command. When I get drunk and yall hand me com, theres a problem.
And lets put it like this. Do we want more of these types of scenarios?
Kalix Vs. Shiny?
I didn't think so.
