Every kind of internet forum has the ass kissing of admins and all the same @#(! we see here. I doesn't bother me, but when the only good servers gets pulled because of some disagreement and messing around with my squad becomes unconfortable it DOES bother me.
If anyone is banning night and the lot you better include me, because allegiance sucks without them.
Pook
i do dis-agree with thread deletions, what you say shouldn't be hidden.
i don't agree with forum bans, people should be allowed to say what they want whether you agree with it or not, if they say something out of line people will correct them, if they break rules then they get punished.
the only rules that really apply to forums are posting copyrighted material. and hacking.. but who the $£%$£ hacks a forum - |_0|_ look at my 1337 post count |\|0w33ee! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
i don't know about all the things that people are posting about
i haven't heard anything about noir leaving, where is this posted?
i've heard of people getting forum bans recently, as i said above i don't agree with them
can someone tell me in a reasonable, not trying to make their side sound better, without starting a flame war what's been happening recently?
i've only seen a higher number of thread locks recently, some things mentioned here are news to me, someone give me the full story (impartially)

I have not the faintest clue as to what's going on this morning but as far as locking threads goes - the RoC applies to the forums as much as to the game so things like harrasing people and so on apply. BV also has permission from Thal to exercise his discretion with locked threads.
As for forum bans, they are essentially unworkable and rarely used. What has been done occasionally is to put people on a system where a mod has to approve each forum post by a certain user to avoid them spamming the forum with rants/nonsense.
Like I say, I have no idea what people are spitting the dummy over today but I hope I've answered a couple of your questions Mad. If you want further clarification you'll need to talk to BV about it.

This is what happened the way I was told by certain individuals: When the rank column was first re-introduced with FAZ R2, Noir decided to change some of the rank names around. Intermediate became "Voob," (0) became "Newbie," 1-7 became "Muppet," expert became "Whore," and there might have been a few other ones. Pook did not like this and, IIRC, demanded that Noir change them back to what they're supposed to be as the titles were "FAZ Property" and he had no right to change them, even though these titles are a server-side setting. This heated debate continued for several days, and at the end of it, Pook decided it would be best if he "left" Allegiance. Noir did not like the hostility he received from Pook, nor did he like the concept of the auto-balance feature or the attitude he received from TigerEye about it. (Tiger chided Noir over it, as Noir was one of the people that helped come up with the current incarnation of the auto-balance concept, as he felt it was a better alternative to what they had previously planned. What that was, I'm not sure.) Noir decided that it was no longer worth his money to sustain his DN servers or support his core, and so he decided to allow his servers to slide while he engaged in dialogue with TigerEye to perhaps get Thalgor to put up a few DN squad server slots, as there weren't any Planet DN squad servers up at the time. Noir never heard anything about it. After he spoke to Thalgor directly, Thalgor told Noir that he had never heard anything about it, and after that nothing was done to resolve the server issue. Finally, about two weeks ago, Aarmstrong agreed to put up a few DN squad server slots a day or two before Noir's servers expired.
Meanwhile, this was over the time period Pook "left" the game because he was upset with how things were going, and I don't necessarily disagree with him. However, as far as I could tell, he stayed in the background and got BlackViper to take over enforcement issues as he didn't want to deal with it anymore. This is where things get murky - I heard a rumor, I'm not sure if it's true or not, that this entire situation was planned. Yes, this entire harsh enforcement was a plan concocted by Pook to push everyone over the edge and make us all believe things were so much better when Pook was here to the point that we'd beg and whine and plead for him to come back, upon which Pook returns and the day is saved. It explains the harsh topic deletions, the harsh locking of numerous topics, and the major crackdown on people's conduct. Furthermore, there was a thread started earlier tonight by Psychosis that essentially said that he missed Noir's servers and he would be willing to monetarily support Noir in order to get his DN servers back. I made a post stating that Noir pulled his servers due to disagreements with certain administrators, and shortly after that, the thread was deleted and Psychosis was gvien a rather harsh PM from Pook. This, combined with the notion that I was likely going to be labeled as a major troublemaker and banned regardless of what I did over the next few weeks, pushed me over the edge and led me to create the threads I did tonight.
Here's my personal view: I don't like it. From a logical point of view, if Pook and Thalgor were -really- discontent with how things were going, why didn't they just pull the plug? After all, they never play the game anymore. They're just here to fulfill a supportive role by their choice. I thought about it, and the only logical conclusion I came up with was that they do it because they like having their own little world in their control, and I think the "dirty mousepad" incident was a good example of this. Now, with all the crap I pulled in the past and the warnings I've had, why wasn't I permabanned a long time ago? I don't know, and that doesn't make much sense to me.

How the hell can you say that crap about Pook and Thal? They have done so much to keep this game going and to provide us a place to play, and you thinnk they do this all to get their jollies?
Oh, I am sure sifting thru all of the forum posts, PM's, and e-mails and dealing with all of the issues is so much fun.
Stop with the conspiracy theory. You are making something out of nothing. Pook got burned out, he did not want the community to die because he wanted out. God forbid he should think of us and the game and try and prevent it all from imploding. So he gave control to BV.
BV is doing what he thinks is right. He is enforcing the rules. is it that hard to deal with? @#(! or get off the pot. If you cannot deal with acting nice, then leave. That is what it comes down to. We all want to play, have fun. All of us want that. No one wants drama or bans. We all love this game. However the problem is lack of respect for the rules and one another. The players need to respect the new an old players. If we want this game to be here in 5 more years, we need to change our ways. If the admins have to bonk a few heads to get folks in line, so be it. They are just trying to keep this damn community functioning.
Bashing newbies, pushing admins buttons, acting stupid, and causing trouble....how does that help? It doesn't.
Have FUN!! But respect the other players and the rules. They do not ask much of us, just to not act like asshats.

Ranks which call someone a muppet/blithering idiot/retard/complete idiot is allowed, but it's not allowed to call someone like this ingame? /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doh.gif" />NightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Oct 13 2006, 12:49 PM) 1-7 became "Muppet," expert became "Whore," and there might have been a few other ones. The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Badger, how long has BV been doing this? Less than a month. I sincerely doubt that he's had time to engage in constructive, adult dialogue with everyone that's "caused problems." Sure, there are people like Yanlin that probably can't be reasoned with.
I tried being nice for several months, and I was treated no differently than I am when I act like a complete @#$%@#. If BV is doing what he thinks is right, fine. If Pook supports him, fine, but how many times have Pook and Thalgor stated that they're tired of the bull@#(! they receive from people here? How many times have they said they're fed up with it, and how many times have they threatened to pull the plug? Why haven't they yet? They sure as hell don't play the game, and if this community is really as ungrateful as they claim it is, I just don't understand why this is all still here.
