If you have no idea what you should be doing as com you should not be quiet. Only an idiot would think that. You should obviously be asking for help from the more experienced coms on your team and then listening and applying their advice.
The single worst thing you can do when you're not sure what to do is be quiet. Ask politely and wait for an answer. That's the best way to learn and it will get you respect if you're asking the right questions. Most people like a newb who wants to learn even the asshats.
