Sooo... certain factions fare better against another, and as long as each faction consistently wins against some factions and consistently loses against the others, we'll reach that ideal 50% number for each faction's average wins.
For example, to make up some numbers, the win ratios for IC could be IC vs Dreg = 10%, IC vs Giga = 20%, IC vs TF = 80%, IC vs Rix = 90%, IC vs GT = 30%, IC vs Nix =70% --> Overall IC wins = 50%.
Therefore any faction vs faction matchup may not be balanced, but overall, DN will be in "balance".
In other words, it's about those in the know beating on those who are not in the know, such as poor(er) commanders, more laid-back commanders, and newbies, choosing the factions, maps and settings that are winning choices for their team against the other team.
So in any given game, unless the two commanders are equally knowledgeble about what beats what and willing to strike a compromise, one side could be expected to have a significant advantage over another even before the first scout launches.
Glad we cleared that up. Some of us have this misconception that balance means "to be in or come into equilibrium", you know, having equal chances of winning before the game starts so that the better team may win.
It's indeed "common sense".

NightRychune, so far this thread was not a "Core war" thread and I think it would help, if it would stay this way.NightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Aug 21 2006, 02:27 AM) I guess it's also "common sense" that going dreg exp on GoD against anything but dreg exp or MAYBE IC Tacspan means you win.
