The president of the United States appears to have to enlist and even blackmail a foreign leader to start a trumped-up investigation into a political rival.

Why would you let anyone do your thinking for you on this momentous topic?

I don't think he will be impeached and I have already heard and read a few breakdowns of the report.
I'm just curious what your particular opinion is and you almost always write interesting and sometimes very funny posts.

He will be impeached, he won't be removed by the Senate. Republicans in Nixon's time had principals and morals; the GOP we have today is every bit as corrupt as he is. They will support him no matter what he does.

I hope not. Seems to me the dems were left will no choice but to try and impeach. Can’t let the pres corrupt the election process again. The constitution framers directly added the impeachment process to prevent presidents from election corruption.

I don't think so.

Clinton got a bump from his impeachment, but I think we make a mistake if we look at history thinking that every impeachment is exactly the same. I think what the polls are telling us right now is that there really aren't that many voters that think, "well, I don't like Trump, but the Democrats are being really unfair to him". That was the case with Clinton. But with Trump, the polarization is nearly complete. Either you love him or you hate him. Through the past three tumultuous years, Trump's approval ratings have barely moved. That speaks to a profound difference between 1997 and now.

I too was afraid of the "backfire effect", but I'm over it now. There's no reason for Democrats not to do the right thing here. This is the exact set of circumstances for which impeachment was intended. If Senate refuses to convict, that's on them. History will not look well on Democrats if they are too timid to even try.

Honestly I think those who still stick with Trump after all this time are irredeemably lost for the Democrats; there is nothing a Democrat can say or do that will ever win their vote. The real test is going to come down to turnout. There's a real danger that Democratic voters are going to stay home, like they did in 2016, and bitch about the nominee, whoever it is, about not being their favorite Democrat Jesus. And there's going to be a lot of foreign propaganda floating around to stoke divisions among the Democratic electorate. It drives me nuts to hear commentary like "the Democrats don't have a strong candidate" when the alternative is literally Donald J. Trump. Talk about having a double standard.

If there is any way that the Democrats are "all but ensuring his reelection", it's in letting this happen.

If this election is won by the Republicans it will be because of decades of carefully stacking the deck.

Honestly the biggest threats to a Democratic president is the way the mainstream media is trying to force Joe Biden and Buttigieg down everyone's throat. No one wants this white trash. Meanwhile, the actual most interesting candidate (Julian Castro) sits on the sideline while the supporters of the two best candidates (Warren and Sanders) continue to snipe at each other.

Warren might actually convince my mom, who still thinks Reagan was awesome, to vote democrat.

Good move by trump killing qasem. This whole middle east thing is about saudi (sunni arabs) v.s. iran shia. 2 offshoot muslim groups fighting it out since 700AD. Iran being held down by sanctions but with a highly effective asymmetric warfare in yemen, syria, iraq led by qasem was shifting to much power to iran. This will keep the iranians from gaining to much power. It seems to me america wants a balance instead of iran ruling the middle east or saudi Arabia ruling the middle east. If america pulls out completely im pretty sure iran will prevail. Stupid religion is causing so much harm.
