Omni Wraith wrote:QUOTE (Omni Wraith @ Jul 28 2010, 08:14 PM) Besides alleg and a few other games, I play a game called Kohan: Ahriman's Gift. That game is almost as old as alleg and has dwindled down to approximately 50 or so hardcore players. The rights of that game still belong to Timegate Studios and they have no intention of releasing the rights. They believe their game is still worth $ 19.99 USD and if anyone ever installs the game and tries to play online as a newbie, they get a$$-reemed by the 50 or so vets left. That does nothing to expand the player base of that game. Will Allegiance suffer the same fate?
Hopefully not. As long as helpful players continue to help and mitigate the hate, we should be OK. At least from that specific issue. I fear console gaming and the death of the PC as we know it a decade or so more than anything.

Alot of PC gaming has gone way of the dinosaur due to console gaming systems. I feel PC gaming will never completely die out though. PCs will always be ahead of the consoles by way of technology. Besides, keyboards will still have alot more keys than your standard console controllers for years to come.

Imagine a game as complex as this on a console controller with about 10 buttons and a few Directional pads. Now, remember that this game is >10 years old.

We sent man into space with the power of a modern PC >40 years ago. Can a playstation/xbox/nintendo controller do that?

I hate console games because it has a lot more annoying little kids. PC are where the cool peeps are at.

I do have a 360 but I don't care to play online with it for this reason.

Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Jul 29 2010, 01:13 AM) How many of them were newbies when they made their contributions? Is your point "Everyone was a newbie once"? If so, GET THE $#@! OUT BECAUSE YOU ARE DUMB.
Sure they weren't newbies when they made their contributions, but if the game had been focused on maintaining the existing population of vets I'd bet some of them wouldn't have bothered with the game.

If this game was focussed on veteran retention, important programmes such as CDT and ACS would be put on the back burner. Vets are always going to leave, whether it's sooner or later is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. This community has and should always be focussed more on training and educating newbies to ensure the long term survival of Allegiance.

Trying to keep the vet population satisfied is an exercise in futility in a game like this, there is no chance everyone is going to even agree on something let alone be happy with it, hell the only reasons you've given for them leaving are "because you morons are driving them away" and because "this community is overflowing with idiots", I'd like to know your solution for this if you think we should focus on keeping vets because according do you that's what we should be tackling.

Additionally, everyone was indeed a newbie once, that's not dumb, that's the truth. If you want to focus on kissing the vets asses instead of helping newbies you'll have an even greater number of douchebags than there already are on the servers dicking on newbies in a game that's hard enough as it is without pricks like them making it worse.

How about we stop letting voobs/noobs teach other voobs/noobs.

Right now its a feedback loop of epic proportions, idiots teach idiots, who go on to teach more idiots, who will eventually teach even more idiots.

Is anyone else tired of reading post after post that says either "everyone is stupid cuz I say so," or "I am very smart and also great," or any combination thereof?
