(Or at least some epic song in the background)
On a more serious note. Is there a way to send the newbies somewhere OTHER than the main where they won't get frustrated that EVERYTHING is happening and they can't do anything? Perhaps add insta-podkill for anyone with a rank lower than 5 as well? Newbies need more actually playing time and less "WTF IS GOING ON!" time if you want to keep em.
Do like me and pk them all below around a 3 or 4. I send a pm the first time or two explaining that Im sending them home quick so they can learn but don't kill pods in general. The poor dears think killing pods is a good thing given they get pked by the great farter, MrC

I posted in the one other forum I read once and awhile. This was 1 of the 2 responses I got.
"I was interested in the idea, but when I tried it the learning curve made EVE Online look fast and furious.
What has improved in terms of getting new players into the game, as contributing members, as soon as possible? (The internet space academy program is bat@#(! insane and does not count.)"

Should the background music be added back as an option? I always turn it off in games, but maybe some folks would like it?
( Maybe it's already there, I never bothered to look before.

Cookie Monster wrote:QUOTE (Cookie Monster @ Jul 28 2010, 06:04 AM) Omicron Hive is the first new faction we've had in a very long time, long enough for people to get bored and go away. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. The attention span of today's gamer is short and we don't exactly have the resources of Blizzard.
And wow, just because in the 5 minutes you've been here things have been happening, clearly this has been what's happening since the dawn of time. It's pretty clear you need to shut the hell up once in a while and let other people talk, even if they're wrong, instead of just telling them to get out. Talk about driving people away.
OH, Technoflux, Dreg, GT, Phoenix, Effix. There's more player-made factions than there are MS-original factions, and that doesn't even count the unreleased factions still being worked on.
And let's not talk about "the 5 minutes I've been here", because newbie retention would be pretty $#@!ing poor without ASGS (coded by a hardcore vet), the work of the devteam to modernize the Alleg code and make it accessible through firewalls, core devs that have ensured fluidly changing gameplay through the years, the squad leaders who keep competition and drama up, and so much more. Don't talk to me about $#@!ing 2002 when you're playing a game which is thriving on nearly a decade worth of work by vets who, by and large, have gotten very little back for it. Maybe you've never noticed that while I'm totally willing to @#(! all over fuzz
despite his work on beta, I have never once shat on him BECAUSE of his work on beta.

I would join Jimen in a group fuzz hug, but he appears to be coated in shat. So I will pass.

Thanks brood for proving my point.
QUOTE The amount of newbs and voobs is overwhelming the number of decent players and vets. Current situation is an effect caused by an overflow of newbs a few years ago.
(Yes, I am stating that voobs are DISTINCT AND SEPARATE from decent players. Stop using it as a badge of honour.)[/quote]
I agree juckto. The average game has more clueless players, than people who know what is up.
The number of people who fail to listen to commands and orders is possibly the highest ever. More often than not, miner D will launch 8 interceptors, and not a single nan. More often than not a turret gunner will spend an eternity shooting at a target 1200m away, instead of the int 150m away that is killing all the nans. More often than not miner O, or bomber D, will chase a nan that is 1k+ from bomber/miner, instead of shooting the nan that is actually nanning, or instead of finishing off the near dead bomber/miner.
Idiocy is rampant, and imo has alot to do with voobs teaching other voobs/noobs entirely incorrectly.

Definetly not why noobs are leaving.

Submit a ticket to upgrade the standard player AI. We'll have to be careful about it tho, too drastic a change could impact game play.

We did not say it was. We said it is why VETs are leaving.
