Life has just kicked me in the butt.I haven't been able to even D/L C++ editors, much less get into coding again. I hope to soon, but life suks.

Making new textures for the old models can be a bit of a pain in the butt, the mesh had annoying seams and weird bits at places. The wiki should tell if an up to date model format can be used, a couple factions made from scratch may be a better start than converting and fixing the old ones.

Added some notes, but basically if anyone can get me better .obj Geo and matching textures, we'd be in business for giving the game a facelift. Bump/normal textures could also be used though there is currently no support.

UPDATE: Added a link to the default art pack. I'm trying to get up to date windows binaries for the stuff I've done in the last month or so, but that'll be a little while longer. In the mean time, any modelers can use the OBJ and PNG files contained in the "decompiled" folders and are welcome to create updated art assets for them. While the FA engine will eventually support all kinds of modern stuff, right now it's just expecting static geometry with no animation skeletons, and simple albedo textures. Again, if anyone can use those assets as a jumping off point to create better looking assets without baked in lighting, it would make a world of difference to the game's appearance.

Started pouring through the original artwork from MS. There are no unbaked asteroids to be found, so it'll probably be easier to just make new ones entirely from scratch, or repaint the textures from scratch.

Need me to make a few asteroids w/ textures? I can provide you a few in .obj and .png files. Or, I can even get them exported into a allegiance .mdl files.

Let me know if I can help.

Don't need MDL files anymore. I wrote the exporter because I thought the only source for the raw data was the artwork mdls. FA is determined to just naitively handle common open or well documented formats.

And please, I'll need all the art help I can get. Fire up blender or Maya and give me all the high res Geo and textures you want. :)

I'll get you some stuff out of blender tonight. Ryu is in town and wants to meet up, but he's not important to me.
