The Senate should solve issues like:
Mistrust between groups within the community ("SysX is above enforcement")Community fails on agreeing a new default key map"Person X leads group y, WTF!"Using carriers to block an aleph is 'cheating'.and so on...

Overall it's the self-determined government body of the community, to move things forward.

The Senate has nothing to do with solving the ownership problem you always referring to. TE still owns the community core systems and still holding the keys. I'm just 'in charge', because he's busy in RL and doesn't want to deal with 'day-to-day drama'. That 'day-to-day drama' is the reason, why we I decided to resurrect the Senate.
that's what you consider issues?! geez no wonder.

First of all, if they behave like kids then treat them like kids, period. if you don't have kids just ask people who have kids how they do. it's pretty simple.

just choose a default map and put it in the installer and AU. or ask someone to send you a default map and publish it. first person to send you a map gets it published. period. You all agree the default map is terrible and yet you linger for years to choose between candidates A, B or C who are all better than the default map. just pick one ffs. whatever it will be better than default and will stop losing new players because of kb map issue. Then you can waste time and discuss if A, B or C should be the final one. But meanwhile pick one. You're like doctors staring at a bleeding patient wondering if you should use method A, B or C to stop the bleed... see the problem there ?

if you consider carriers blocking alephs not a valid tactic but an exploit then just fix the code and publish the fix. if you can't decide ask someone you trust to decide. just go for it. don't linger. for instance, i'll ask Spunky to decide. period. once fixed (or not) people will move on and forget about this. if they really love this game , they'll stop bitching and move on.

you just need to NOT show indecision that's all. Kids like to exploit indecision of their parents. do not show indecision.
do stuff and act then discuss after eventually, not the other way around. That is what been missing since the triumvirate era and since then it has been slowly killing the game and its community.

Also, filter the white noise and noisy people. Distinguish between 'forum genius' and actual doers. Most previous active doers all left because 'forum genius' were given too much attention here. Always, always, always help the doers. or they'll leave and you'll end up with just the babbling monkeys...

it's pretty simple actually.

Who cares about the training mission. Implement what KGJV said and code it into the training later. You can always add something like "for now, the training keys are different in the training than they are in the game" statement somewhere in the newb forums. If the newbs don't get it right away, oh well. I suspect most of them don't use much of the keyboard OR training before they get antsy and start to play in regular games, anyways.

We already have Backtrak ready to go with an awesome idea:

QUOTE Key map option from the launcher, with a first time splash screen to let new users know it's there? Then they could switch at will, and it would have a little blurb about the training missing in there as well. The default for a new installation would be to use the enhanced key map.

Something like this:

We can start you off with an improved keyboard map that will improve your game. However, the improved keyboard map is not used by the training missing at this time. You can use Esc-G-C when you are in the game to change your keyboard mappings at any time.

X Use Enhanced keyboard map for flight controls (Recommended)
O Use Legacy Training keyboard map for flight controls

Whaddya think, sirs?[/quote]
As always, I believe that we should just go with the one on the wiki.

The splash screen will go far in getting new pilots thinking about their key mapping. The cadet key inputmap1 is a good start. (The rest is up to them to explore.) And it's INFINITELY BETTER than the current default that remains to be changed.

The keymap issue is fixed (pending testing and next release.) Training messages now display actual mapped keys, joystick and mouse buttons can be used to continue training and mention of keys not in the default keymap are removed from audio files - it works well enough that there isn't any need to re-record. And there is a new minimal WASD keymap to go with it.

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.

Wow spunky, that's awesome news!

Edit: I've moved my multi monitor patch and server crash patch into the main branch, and compiled it with yours and Turkey's changes. I still need to do some testing on my side before I put it on beta, but I'll try to have it up on Thursday.

Thanks!
