Questions to whoever is in charge
If you were really interested in answers to this question I would surely get them for you. I would go to the ZL forum, post these questions, get all the answers and return them to you, despite the fact you know the majority of these answers and have been discussed it all to death multiple times.KGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 27 2010, 08:53 PM) Are you in charge to answer my questions or not ?
I have an important decision to make and I need these answers 1st.
And stop trolling if you can't help me decide.
Base your decision on the fact everyone appreciates your work and loves you for it. Heck I use ICE DAILY for the betterment of the game If you put half the time into your coding as you put into rabble rousing these last 6 years you would have two $'s!
I've known you a long time kage, but this is beginning to get ridiculousness. Decent ideas like Onion's are getting lost under all your nonsense!
p.s. you sure are vocal NOW for someone who wants nothing to do with dev half the time and turned down being involved at an admin dev level.
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
The answer of that question got be already refused...KGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 28 2010, 02:37 AM) Q7 - Can we get a detailed description(hardware, OS, software, ownership, costs) of the systems used to run Alleg and support this community along with an explanation of why they're built like this ? (why this medieval forum software for instance!!!)
How much money you donated to FAO?

I sense a disturbance in the force.
It all ended up with some wired goals (which get removed automatically, if they get reached or expire) on the front page.
New hardware was brought from a lager goal (something around 1000 USD were collected), to replace Thalgor old machines (which now used to host beta).
I don't think, that I live in glass houses, so let me throw stones:

The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
Deja Vue.
I keep this practical, my point of view.
I've seem clans explode in rage. Too many people have root access, think they know best, and do not communicate with others. ! person has access, he is the only one to blame. Cruel but true.
TE, and others, do a fine job in keeping Alleg running, and still free of charge. Great for a cheap ass like me. I respect them for this. Sure, the wall may be painted green in stead of my favorite color, but hey, It's not my home.
If TE dies, and he has not made arrangements, the lease will expire. Someone can register the domain, rent new hardware and such. For what I can see TE uses Shadow Copies on his (virtual) drives, which most likely can be restored by an knowable person. I'm sure there will be a note somewhere at TE's saying how and where to find this info.
Such an dramatic event will likely happen far in the future. Somehow I do not believe people will be queuing to take over the fee. Alleg might be dead itself in 20 years or so.
If TE has enough of Alleg, I'm sure he will contact potential Alleg keepers to take over the stuff. There are plenty of trustworthy people who can be entrusted with such a task.

Since my name came up way up at the top of this thread I'll give you some more details.
Here where the sum total of my decisions regarding Solap
Just say no to donations
Thatentire @#(!storm is why I never took a penny for Solap. By taking the approach it was my money, my business this stopped potential crap. I'd do the exact same thing again. Many offered to donate fwiw and every single person was someone I can't imagine causing a scene fwiw, just others like to stir the pot. If I had taken money Id have published the details, since that is the right thing to di imho.
Follow GPZ's lead put together a team
We all played a role with my sneaky self thinking being the voice would make mine really easy... *facepalm*. I NEVER had a single problem with anyone in the group because I choose them wisely given my personal interactions with them. It was a divide the work and keep someone around to deal with outages to the widest degree possible.
Decide who and how many get in
I actually had WAY more offers of help then I could possibly use. We actually had someone afk due to RL for a bit. I decided to continue allowing them access but had no issues with removing them and to keep the team size from bloating. Fwiw they suggested I pull their login to keep the team managable.
Handle the community interactions so the others didnt have to do it
What a @#(! sandwich that one is let me tell you. Now *insert endless names*
foh suh and this isn't about you. Rather it's those who forget that it's my $#@!ing money, my $#@!ing time, my trying to deflect the shif off those $#@!ing stupid enough to help me keep up a $#@!ing game server, all this so others can play a free $#@!ing game and expect it all to $#@!ing work like they are paying top $#@!ing dollar. edit2: By this I meant, and said poorly, that others tend to demand more when it's free then if they pay. They can be @#$%@#s when they demand things. The my money makes it seems as if I expected anything more then simply providing a game server.
Deal with the going out of business details
We told everyone a month or more in advance publicly to limit drama. We informed TigerEye well before going public. We rounded up another team to replace the server from soup to nuts. All within a few weeks. I didn't hold a poll or ask for fifty pages of input, just saw a need to replace Solap, got the ball rolling, then got the $#@! out of the way to let it happen. Matter of fact I was informed a week after the decisions had been made, it made me happy that I could walk away without a worry.
I'd like to deeply thank those initiating the current round of drama from the bottom of my heart. I had actually pmed TE that at least one now and more in a few months, colocacted, midrange servers (quad core blah blah blah), on a provider with some truely sweet pings from real world usage experience, along with a personal connection inside the hosting provider, all for the grand total to the community being $0.00. Then the devs vs admins @#(!storm (aka Aliens vs Predators) erupted, again, and it reminded me, again, it wasn't money, time, or effort that brought down Solap....

This is not the thread to discuss that.Mastametz wrote:QUOTE (Mastametz @ Aug 28 2010, 01:42 AM) Why the $#@! would we remove hiders
Since you can't answer his questions, you have no need to post here.
You may not see why they need answering, but KG does. Saying they don't need answering achieves nothing and only serves to annoy KG for very little reason.spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ Aug 28 2010, 01:47 AM) At least half of your questions don't deserve to be answered, have been answered before, are intended to incite needless drama, or are flat out stupid.
He came here seeking clarification on some important issues and posted his request in an organised manner. You can either help him if you can, or not post here if you can't.
QUOTE WHY DID YOU TURN DOWN BEING A ZONE LEAD OR ZONE LEAD ASSISTANT?[/quote]
Because KG thought it was just a cheap empty gift from TE so TE can say he gave KG something when KG had been asking for the keys.
Now KG is asking who actually runs the community - is it TE like KG thought, or would KG have gotten the keys he wants had he taken the ZL position because as TE says "the ZLs run the community".
Because KG feels that these are important things for the whole community to know, and because he wants how things are run here to be more open. Holding secret meetings to abolish secrecy kinda hypocritical don't ya think? + his pm may just have been ignored.girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Aug 28 2010, 02:30 AM) Why not just PM TE to avoid needless drama?

madpeople suggests that unless you actually have an answer to any of KG's questions, and you are actually in a position to answer (i.e. you are a ZL, server owner, administrator or other important community position) you refrain from posting in this thread.
madpeople is slight tempted to ask for mod powers so he can delete most of the crap from this thread, but wonders just how much drama doing so would cause, and questions whether it's right to enforce his opinion on everyone

This thread is going nowhere. KGJV you should ask TE to make a special forum with access restricted to Zone Leaders, yourself, TE and maybe one or two responsible members of each squad if you really want to discuss this. I'm officially calling this thread derailed.
