My typical question when flying with brand new players on the newb servers is "do you know how to use side thrust?", and the answer is universally no. Having the default controls be a little more intuitive (read: closer to standard FPS) would seriously help people get into the game.

Hmmm. As discussed elsewhere - changing the default key map would lead to a bunch of issues with the Training Missions which would need to be resolved.........

Having an optional "New" keymap one button press away might be good though.......

Okay well my name is not Bob but i'm still a newbie.

To cut the chase, i did the training missions and it feel like i should have 3 or 4 hands to effectively reach all the bindings (and the mouse!), what keymap should i use?

Default with virtual joystick on ? off ? (I use mouse and keyboard.)

I tried remaping bindings but i feel that i'm not sure i'm heading the right way...

What do veteran use ?

Should i stick to default bindings ?

Thx.

WASD OR ESDF for thrusting up down left right

targetting is important at first when you cant find stuff quick enough following icons around screen so set them to easy to reach keys
autopilot key is important, can make you teleport to safety quicker than P , helps you aim at stuff faster if you target and can autopilot to that target just to being aiming it manually.

cloack is important to have it to easy key too.. my would be control spacebar..

sometimes, mines gotta be dropped in a hurry like when you are ambushed or figured out a strategy to beat an opoenent, so keymapping mines or probes to easy key is essential.. mine is X since i use wasd, could be V if you used esdf

boosting is done by me with tab only, some people use spacebar for it so they can boost and thrust around with wasd/esdf
forward thrust and backward thrust can help you HOLD extra speed (forward thrust) and help you dogfight making you "get out of range" by going backwards and shooting at the same time.
my foward thrust is right mouse button since ive experienced keyboard locking by mashing forward thrust key + thrusting +firing missile and worse if you add a quick need to cloack

and backward thrust according to my wasd settings i put it to spacebar since for boost i use tab..
also adding the same key plus SHIFT on wasd and other movement and weapon keys, gives you more keys to do other stuff

if you use wasd to thrust and x to drop mines, if you need to do something that you mapped with a shift+(key)
you lose the action of the wasd when you press shift to do other stuff, so using shift+wasd plus regular wasd is effective for all keys keeping the function and using other keys for extra purposes.
i dont know if i was clear, hope it helps..
